The note threat

1033 Words
Leonardo's eyes scanned the message on the paper, his face growing increasingly pale. The words danced on the page, taunting him with their sinister intent. Elisabeth's eyes were fixed on him, her expression growing more and more concerned. "What is it, Leonardo?" she asked again, her voice trembling. But Leonardo didn't want to alarm her. He didn't want her to worry about the threat that loomed over them. So he forced a reassuring smile onto his face and crumpled the paper in his hand. "It's nothing, Elisabeth," he said, trying to sound casual. "Just some kids playing a prank. Don't worry about it." With a flick of his wrist, he tossed the crumpled paper out of the car window, watching as it fluttered away into the wind. Elisabeth's eyes followed the paper, her expression skeptical. She knew Leonardo too well, knew when he was hiding something from her. But she didn't press the issue. Instead, she turned her attention to the children in the backseat, trying to reassure them that everything was okay. Maya was still shaken, clinging to Axel's arm, while Axel's eyes were fixed on his father, a look of concern etched on his face. As they continued driving, the tension in the car was palpable. Leonardo's eyes kept darting towards the rearview mirror, as if he expected something - or someone - to be following them. The atmosphere was thick with unease, and Elisabeth couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. As they pulled up to the school, Leonardo's eyes scanned the perimeter, taking in the imposing gates, the security cameras, and the guards stationed at every entrance. The school was renowned for being one of the most secure institutions in the country, a fortress for the children of the elite. Despite the reassuring presence of the school's security measures, Leonardo's instincts still compelled him to take extra precautions. He escorted Axel and Maya inside, his personal bodyguards not yet in sight. Once they reached the entrance of the school building, Leonardo paused, his eyes locking onto the children's faces. "I'll be back to pick you up after school, okay?" he said, forcing a reassuring smile onto his face. As he turned to make a call, Axel's small hand reached out and grasped his. "Dad, is everything alright?" Axel's voice was laced with concern, his eyes searching his father's face for reassurance. Leonardo's heart swelled with pride and love for his son. He knelt down, his eyes locking onto Axel's. "Everything's fine, kiddo," he said, his voice low and soothing. "Just be careful, okay? And stay close to Maya." As he finished speaking, his phone call connected, and he spoke in hushed tones to his bodyguards, instructing them to meet him at the school entrance. A few minutes later, two imposing figures in black suits appeared, their eyes scanning the surroundings before focusing on Leonardo. With a nod, Leonardo handed over the children's care to the bodyguards. "Keep them safe," he said, his eyes locked onto the guards. As the bodyguards nodded and led the children away, Leonardo turned to Elisabeth. "Let's go," he said, his eyes scanning the surroundings before leading her away from the school. As the bodyguards led Axel and Maya away, Elisabeth's instincts screamed at her to hold on to her son just a little longer. She quickly turned around and rushed back to Axel, embracing him in a tight hug. "I love you so much, Axel," she whispered, her voice trembling with emotion. "Take good care of yourself, okay? Your daddy and I will come pick you up after school." Axel wrapped his small arms around her waist, holding her close. "I love you too, Mommy," he said, his voice muffled against her shoulder. Elisabeth held him for a moment longer, savoring the warmth and security of her son's presence. She could feel her heart galloping in her chest, her mind racing with worst-case scenarios. She knew she had to let him go, but it was hard to shake off the feeling of unease that had settled in the pit of her stomach. Finally, with a deep breath, Elisabeth released Axel from her grasp, smiling through tears. "Be good, okay?" she said, her voice barely above a whisper. Axel nodded, his eyes shining with understanding. "I will, Mommy," he said, before turning to follow the bodyguards into the school building. Elisabeth watched him go, her heart heavy with a sense of foreboding. She turned to Leonardo, her eyes searching for reassurance. But Leonardo's expression was grim, his eyes scanning the surroundings with a mixture of caution and concern. As they settled back into the car, Leonardo's hands moved swiftly to retrieve his cell phone from his pocket. His fingers flew across the screen, dialing a number that only a select few had access to. Elisabeth's eyes narrowed, her mind racing with the implications of her husband's actions. "Who are you calling?" she asked, her voice low and even. Leonardo's eyes flicked towards her, his expression grim. "The head of security," he replied, his voice tight with tension. "I need to request backup." Elisabeth's grip on the armrest tightened, her knuckles turning white. "What's going on, Leonardo?" she demanded, her voice rising. "What was on that note?" Leonardo's eyes darted towards her, his face pale. For a moment, he hesitated, as if weighing his options. Then, with a deep breath, he blurted out the truth. "We're being threatened!" he exclaimed, his heart racing with frustration. "The note said that if we don't comply with their demands, they'll hurt the children." Elisabeth's eyes widened in horror, her face draining of color. "What demands?" she whispered, her voice trembling. Leonardo's jaw clenched, his eyes blazing with anger. "I don't know," he growled. "But I'll do whatever it takes to keep our family safe." As he spoke, his phone connected, and he began to speak in rapid, urgent tones to the person at the other end. Elisabeth's eyes remained fixed on him, her mind reeling with the implications of the threat. She felt a cold dread creeping up her spine, her heart pounding in her chest. Who was behind the threat, and what did they want from them?
