I walk back into the party, smiling just thinking about the blush I saw creeping up Linds’ neck. The girl is seriously beautiful. Just this morning I was fighting with my parents about how I didn’t want to move to this stupid little town of Grove, Oregon. I was so mad they were pulling me out of my school in Arizona and away from all of my friends. But, my dad was being relocated here for his stupid job and I had no choice. I was pretty much told to make the best of it and quit whining. I was seething pissed.
But, all of that seems like a distant memory as I think about the way her body gyrated against mine on the make shift dance floor. I knew she was a firecracker when she ran into me outside and glared me down giving me nothing but attitude. But, man can that girl dance. She was beautiful with her thick black hair pulled over her shoulder and the scent of her vanilla perfume on her neck. I could of danced with her all night but knew I needed to give her some space before she started over thinking it again. Don’t get me wrong, the girl is drop dead gorgeous with a body made for sin, and a mouth to match. But, I’m not looking for a girlfriend, and one look at her and you just know that’s exactly the type of girl she is. A relationship or nothing girl. And all that spells out for me is drama.
When I was dancing with Green Eyes, her friend came back waving over my shoulder at someone. When I turned and looked it was my boy Jake. I hadn’t been able to find him earlier when I came in so I gave Linds a tap then a squeeze on the hip because I couldn’t help myself and left to go visit with my boy.
“Yooooo if it isn’t my boy Jonas Evans! And look at you, just moved into town and already making the moves on my girl Lindsey Andrews!” I laugh at him and give him a fist bump and small hug,” I’m glad you told me her name man, I have a feeling if you didn’t she wouldn’t of.” I laugh. “It’s good to see you bro.” Jake and I go way back. Both of our parents would send us to the same sports camps growing up, until Jake moved here from Arizona when he was twelve. Our parents remained friends, which kept Jake and I in contact. Jake’s overall a great dude and I know if I get into some s**t this year he’s going to have my back.
“Yeah man, you too. Linds is looking fine tonight, right?” Jake nudges me to look at her. She’s beautiful, dancing with her friend, their bodies pushed together. She has no idea half the guys in the room are staring at her, and all the girls look alittle green with envy. “Yeah man she’s cool, I kinda got into with her outside and enjoyed ruffling her feathers. Honestly, then I saw her dancing and couldn’t resist.” I chuckle then startle acknowledging the truth in my words. I scrub my hand over my face thinking that Lindsey Andrews is trouble and I need to stay away from those green eyes.
So, the rest of the party I hung out with Jake and he introduced me to his friends Jason and Curt. They both play football, along with Jake. I’m late coming into the season and two a days but the coach told me to see him on Sunday about running through alittle try out. Jakes so excited because he’s a quarterback and knows I’m a hell of a wide receiver. “Dude we are going to kill everybody this year, with me slinging you all the balls in the end zone, the ladies won’t be able to stay away from us!” I laugh but I know Jake’s right, and proving his point two girls walk by and one of them drags her finger up the front of my shirt. “Jakeeyy who’s your new friend?” The blonde asks. I can’t help but notice Linds walk out the sliding door to the deck behind us then Jake laughs and says, “ Hey this is my boy Jonas, he’s starting school with us this week!” The blond giggles to her friend and says, “See you around new kid.” They wink and walk off. I shake my head at Jake. He laughs and says, “ Yo I’m gonna go find Logan so you can meet him! He’s basically the star of our defense!” I laugh and tip my head at him. I stand around with Jake’s friends asking them questions about school and sports all the time wondering if it’s too soon to go outside and “accidentally” run into Lindsey Andrews again.
Thinking about it now, I probably shouldn’t of chased after her. Seeing her upset did something to me. It made me want to punch the dude, who is clearly Logan, and that I will have to share a football field with, right in the face. When he grabbed ahold of my arm to stop me from taking Linds away I almost did punch the kid. I don’t know what he said that made her so upset but I caught on that she clearly had feelings for the guy. Honestly, I felt kind of bad for him because he almost looked panicked when he heard Linds say she had a crush on him. Hell, I panicked too! She can’t like this kid, just thinking about it, made me so mad I realized I had to get her the hell out of there before Logan thought it was a good idea to say he was into her too. Because that’s exactly what dude was about to do. And hell no. I was not about to let that happen.
Still smiling as I’m walking through the party, looking for a new beer because I lost mine somewhere along the way I run into a very angry Logan. This time he’s with Jake instead of that pretty girl with the rude mouth. I fuckin hate bullies, and you could smell it on that girl a mile away.
“Dude what the hell is your problem?” Logan sees me and immediately gets into my face. “Woahhh now calm down,” Jake says trying to get in between us,” what the hell is going on?”
I smile. I can’t help it. “If I had to guess your boys mad because I came to Linds’ rescue and he didn’t like it very much.” I shrug and crack a beer, taking a sip.
“She didn’t need rescuing asshole, it would of been fine if you would of just let me talk to her. s**t Jake! She heard me just trying to get Amber to shut up about her after you came downstairs talking about how hot she looked! I basically told Amber she didn’t matter and I was making out with her wasn’t I? We get to the top of the deck and fuckin Linds is standing right there pale as a ghost! She heard everything I said man!”
I knew this dude freaking liked her. Damn it. Jake’s eyes are massive and says “dude that’s messed up, Linds is fuckin awesome, and definitely not below Amber!” He yells at Logan. I start smiling again because my boy is damn right.
“Bro I know! I just wanted her to shut up, then when I catch up to Linds, this asshole,” and he jabs his finger at me,” won’t even let me talk to her! She even admitted she had a crush on me. Jake you know I have had a thing for her for awhile bro, I didn’t mean what I said.”
“As riveting as this bullshit is, I’m heading out dude,” I turn to fist bump Jake then look pointedly at Logan, “ and as for you, I may be new my man, but you don’t need to worry about Linds anymore, I got her.” I chuckle at his glare and turn for the door. All the while I hear Jake yell, “Already starting s**t Jonas! And then leaving me to clean it up!” I laugh and flip him the bird over my shoulder. I was in so much trouble.
