Chapter 1

"I don't need your advice! I'm already 18 years old!" a loud shout wakes me from my sleep. I looked at my wristwatch and it's 5:00 in the afternoon already. I slept while fixing my things and forgot to eat my pancakes. I slept for almost a day! "Kevin, we just want the best for you. Stay away from those guys. They are not good for you!" uncle Tom is shouting too. I decided not to go downstairs and meddle with their family affairs. But when I heard a loud slam and broken pieces of glass shattered on the floor. I run downstairs and saw Aunt Karen softly cry while fixing her favorite vase and I saw uncle Tom holding Kevin in His back. "Enough Kevin! You're hurting your mother!" uncle Tom shouted. I looked at Kevin, and he's looking at me right now. I saw the guilt and shame in his eyes when He looked at me. He jerks his arms away from His father and left the house real quick. I ran down and followed him, I heard uncle Tom stopping me from following Kevin but I just can't stop my feet from running. "Kevin! Kevin stop!!!" I shouted and it surprised me when he stopped. He looked at me and I saw the sadness in His eyes. It looks like he's sorry. Maybe because of what he did earlier. " What is happening to you Kevin?!" I asked. "Mind your own business Faith" I'm surprised with his cold response. "Hey Kevin let's go!" the tall guy showed up at the window of a car. He's wearing a dirty gray shirt, and he's holding a cigarette. "Who's that?" I asked Kevin, but he just turned his back on me. "Kevin!" I shouted. "Hey kev's who's that chick?" the guy in gray shirt asked Kevin while he's getting in to the car. "It's none of your business." he coldly respond, and he closed the car really hard. Before I could say a word. The car immediately left and I saw the person driving the car. He's wearing sunglasses and a black leather jacket. He's smoking too. He threw his cigarette and removed his eyeglasses before leaving. He looked at me and gave me a disgusted look. I raised my brow as they leave. Who are those people? And why Kevin is with them? Kevin will never smoke. Does he? I'm so frustrated right now and I don't even know how can I come back to uncle Tom's house. I got lost here in the woods together with my confused mind. 30 minutes had passed and I'm still walking here at the woods. Great! I guess I'm really lost. I really don't know where to go right now. I'm startled with a rabbit that jumped in front of me. Guess what, he's taking me to wonderland. I laughed at my own thoughts and left the innocent rabbit alone. I'm not fond of animals and I'll never be. I tried before but it never really happened. Once again I'm startled, because the rabbit jumped in front of me again, and he's coming to me. "No! Don't!" I shouted at him, as if he can understand me. "Alice!" someone called Alice? Whose Alice? The white rabbit ran to the man behind the tree. He's wearing a white shirt and a black jean. "Alice come here" he softly demands and the rabbit ran to him so quick. "Is she bothering you?" he asks. "Well, no, oh well yes. She is" I proudly answered. "I wasn't talking to you." what a jerk he is?! "Excuse me?" "Are you okay Alice?" she asked the innocent rabbit. I rolled my eyes at them and walk to the other direction. "Don't go that way, the wolves are running wild there!" he shouted. I stopped from walking and heard him coming near me. Who's this person?! "Hey, I was just kidding earlier. I didn't mean to be rude. Does she bother you? Did Alice did something wrong with you?" he sincerely asked. I turned around to meet his green eyes. "Don't worry I'm fine" I spit without breaking eye contact. "Btw I'm Jacob." he offered his hand "And I'm Fatima" I said without grabbing his hands. He looked embarrassed and I felt guilty. "It seems like you're not fine" "Actually, I am. I'm just lost here in the woods for almost an hour until I met your rabbit, Alice, which is I'm not really fond off and then you came and acted like a jerk when I feel so lost and drained. So. Yes I'm fine." I said sarcastically. He looked at me and stepped forward, I stepped backward because I'm amused with his eyes. "Look, I'm sorry Fatima. I'm just trying to crack a joke earlier because you're new here. Trying to make a good impression I guess." Good impression? Is he joking? Acting like a jerk does not make a good impression. "By acting like a jerk?" I asked. "I'm trying to joke but it looked like I failed. I'm sorry." I nod and smiled at him. It seems like he doesn't know how to have fun. " You don't know how to crack a joke aren't you?" I ask with a big smile on my face. "Yeah, I'm known here as the serious one." "Oh, you better get yourself some practice to be the funny one." "Will you teach me how?" What? I don't even know you. "Sure." here we go again, Faith who always say yes just never stop. "Cool" he smiled wildly but it seems uncertain. "Yeah cool" I'm just trying to be cool. "Faith! Faith!" hearing uncle Tom's voice gives me a thousand hope. "Uncle Tom!" I ran to him and hugged him so tight. "Where have you been?" "I tried to stop Kevin, but he didn't listen." "I'm sorry for what you saw earlier" "What happened to him?" "I'll explain it to you later." he said calmly while shifting his eyes to Jacob's direction. "Hey Jacob, you met my nephew Faith?" "Yes bishop" He politely answered. Jacob's expression changes from being uncertain about himself to being proud, polite and confident. I think he's right, most of the people here knew him as the serious one. "I'm leaving, nice to meet you Fatima, have a nice day, bishop." he formally said and left us with his pet Alice. "Let's go home before it gets dark"
