“Think of this place more as a college for notorious teenagers than what a real rehab's actually for,” Lucy explained as she and Elizabeth walked to their classrooms.
Lucy had stopped by Elizabeth's room to walk her to class, Elizabeth was surprised but she didn't refuse.
“Are we allowed to leave the rehab's ground?” Elizabeth asked.
“Yea, during weekends, only Lyrites are allowed to go out. Asides that, other tribes are only allowed when there's a project or they get permission from the Chancellor.”
Elizabeth's smirks thinking of someone begging the Chancellor. “I guess the latter happens rarely,”
Lucy chuckles, “rarely is an understatement.” her smile falls. “One reason no one talks to me is because the Chancellor favors me. She only allows me out during weekends.”
Elizabeth's eyebrows lower and pull together. “You shouldn't care what people think. No matter how bad or good you are, they still won't stop hating you.”
Lucy's face lightens up again, “Thank you.”
“Besides, aren't you a Lyrite?” Elizabeth asks. She couldn't imagine Lucy committing a crime.
“Nope, I'm a Himmite.” Lucy replies, “we are the color green. For those who committed moderate crimes.”
“Oh, “ Elizabeth wanted to ask what she committed but she chose to give it time. “Are there any other tribes?”
“Yes, they are called the cynites,” Fear morphed in Lucy's eyes as she continued to explain. “They are psychopaths and sociopaths, most of them are here for murder.”
Elizabeth smirks, “Is Bethany a Cynite?”
“No, she's a Lyrite like you,”Elizabeth's eyes widened in shock. “That's the thing about Cynites,” Lucy points at the portrait of an innocent looking boy with braces and glasses.
“There's no way he's a Cynite,” Elizabeth said in surprise
“He isn't, he was. He butchered a fellow student and killed himself. You can't tell who a Cynite is till you visit their dorm.”
“So, the school puts all the tribes on the same floors?”
“Unbelievably, yes.” Lucy replied. Elizabeth looked back at the portrait. Never in her existence would she be able to tell he's a psychopath.
“Lucy Peters, come to the Chancellor's office now.” A voice said from the hallway speakers. Lucy looked at Elizabeth with a smile plastered on her face. “Gotta run, I'll see you during recess.”
“We get one of those?” Elizabeth gasped pretending to be surprised and Lucy chuckled and walked away. She found herself open to Lucy although it wasn't up to twenty four hours they met. But, what could she say? She's seen how fast someone could change in less than a day.
Elizabeth spots Crater as he walks past the hallway. She gasped softly.
'So, he stays here.’ she thought. Part of her wanted to run to him with a cry on his chest and ask him why he'd left her and why the other part was afraid of him.
She ignored the latter and ran after him. When she turned to the corner he had vanished into, she crashed into a hard body.
Her vision split into two and she saw a blurred vision of her running after a man in a horse rider's outfit and then she crashed into a hard masculine build.
Her vision returned to normal and she gasped and immediately looked away. She looked up to see the same charming fellow that saved the bird yesterday stare at her with dark eyes which then softened. She felt eerie in his presence. A strand of his long dark hair fell to the front of his face. His body was covered in a long thick coat. The vein on his large arms seemed to relax.
“I…I'm sorry,” she said, her heart leaping. She tried to convince herself last night, he wasn't the same person in her dreams.
“You should learn to stop running into people,” he smirked deviously. His voice nearly broke her fragile heart. It was similar to the voice of the man in her dreams.
“What do you mean?” She managed to say a complete statement without stammering in fear.
“You are shaking,” his eyebrow twitched in reference to her shuddering body. His whole demeanor intimidated and scared her.
“Ah, I… “ she held her shoulder but her body couldn't stop shaking. His gaze pierced into her for a while before he spoke.
“I'm Sabastine Hunter,” he said quietly but his bold voice gave him off. He stretched out his hand in greeting.
“Elizabeth Creeper,” she hesitated but shook his hand. Immediately, her warm hand turned cold. She looked at him with wide eyes as he smirked at her.
“Pleasure meeting you,” he took her hand up and kissed it. She felt a sense of deja vu yet again.
She took her hand away quickly and looked away. Amusement flashed in his eyes. He caught her off guard by holding her shoulder.
“You can't stop shaking can you,” he said mockingly. She understood he was mocking her and looked at him daringly but that just made him more amused. “I understand, no girl can resist me.”
She scoffed at the narcissist and shook his hand off her. “I'm guessing you are an obnoxious egomaniac who thinks all girls are the same. Sorry to break your heart but I'm not one of those girls.”
“You are already stalking, how sweet.” He mocked and she scoffed yet again.
“You-” and he cut her off.
“It's alright sweetie, we aren't here to be enemies, are we?” he couldn't stop smirking.
She rolled her eyes and looked away. The fear she had for him moments ago had suddenly vanished. “ I have philosophy in psychology and you are already making me late,”
“Oh, it's a pleasure seeing you again.” He said and she looked at him, her heart beat had begun to pace again.
“Again?” She said softly and he raised a brow.
“You were the one who's window nearly ended my bird's life, aren't you?”
She inwardly sighed, “he was your bird?”
“It's a she. She's a gift from someone special,” he stared at her deep in the eyes without blinking.
“Oh, it's not completely my fault but I'm sorry,”
“I know. She was too busy chasing after another bird to mate although she betrothed to one. Just as covetous as the person that gave her to me,” he said and Elizabeth's lips lifted in amusement.
“You should go attend your classes now,” he smirked and she nodded.
“I enjoyed the conversation, well, the bird part,” she smiled and his whole demeanor softened for a millisecond.
She turned to leave and then saw Crater glaring at her and Sabastine. But, he was gone before she could say anything.
Just like the way he had left her four years ago.
