7 Veronica It didn’t take long to unpack her stuff. There were actually two bedrooms upstairs, but only one had been made up. It had a view down into the street and of the green with the church on the other side. A single light shone outside the church porch, while the square and the three connecting roads were lit by a handful of street lights. The brightest place in the village was the pub, which had lights shining through its windows even though no one could be seen inside. It was fully dark outside, but Emily had to keep reminding herself that it wasn’t even dinner time yet. Dinner. She had picked up a couple of packets of pasta and some Bolognese mix in the petrol station shop, and she had her takeaway flyers, of course. She also had her car if she wanted to drive anywhere.
