Chapter Five In the Fitting Room As Rachel was quietly pondering the McEvers’ relationship, one of the salesgirls came up politely beside her. “Miss?” the girl said, bending down. “Your aunt wonders if you could help her in the fitting room.” “Why, yes, of course,” answered Rachel, smiling slightly at the idea of being considered Lisa’s niece. Had the boutique’s staff merely guessed at that, she wondered, or had the smirking Lisa herself claimed the relation? Even without knowing the terrible things Dr. McEvers had done, the woman must have thought it skirting the edge of ethical behavior to be seen treating her husband’s student to a morning on the town. Going shopping and then out to eat with a young niece, however—why, what could be more natural or unremarkable? Rachel smiled fondly
