Chapter 3: Thirty seconds

I picked up my phone and then put it down again, feeling restless. Su was the goddess in my heart, as well as in the hearts of many boys. She bloomed alone like a lotus flower. Why should I have to kiss her?

She probably didn't want it either. Could it be that we really had to accept the punishment from the Little Devil this time?

I witnessed the gruesome deaths of He Peng and Wang Rui, and just the thought of them made my heart pound relentlessly.

At that moment, I saw a police car enter the school. I remembered what the Little Devil had said in the group chat and looked at the numb classmates around me. I quickly spoke up:

"Listen to me, everyone."

There were about fifty of us in our class on the playground, with no teachers present. Everyone turned their attention to me. Su's face instantly turned red, thinking that I was going to talk about the kiss.

"Do you all remember what the Little Devil said? Two classmates have already died, and I don't want anyone else to die. We must take the initiative, but until we find out who the Little Devil is, we still have to comply with their demands, keep it a secret. The police have come to our school for the second time, and they will definitely question us. I hope everyone can adjust their mindset, not let slip of the tongue. I had good popularity in the class, and many people nodded in agreement. Xiao Ming was the first to stand beside me.

However, some boys stared at me with disdain and asked:

"What about the game with Su? Are you ready to make the sacrifice?"

"Yeah, just because you're self-righteous and say a few bullshit words, it doesn't mean we'll let you off the hook. Su, don't even think about letting him touch you!"

The two who spoke were Wu Yuncheng and Zhang Bin. They had been pursuing Su for half a year. Both of them were not good students, and after being rejected by Su repeatedly, they somehow sympathized with each other and became good buddies.

I turned my head silently. Perhaps in their minds, my life was not worth a kiss from Su.

Xiao Ming couldn't take it and retorted, tilting his head up:

"Do you two even know what the situation is right now? What's the big deal about a kiss? Is it more important than a life? Even if you stop Xiang Nan, you two idiots still won't catch up to Su!"

"Do you want me to say it again? Do you believe I'll knock you down right here?"

"Damn it!"

Seeing that they were about to fight, I quickly grabbed Xiao Ming. Now was not the time to start a physical fight.

Just then, as I predicted, the police approached. Three of them came together.

I saw the leading fat policeman with a constant frown on his face. There was a noticeable scar on his neck, very prominent. He scanned all of us and then sat on the stairs, dozens of meters away from us, before starting to make calls one by one.

After reminding them, I wasn't worried at all that they would let slip of the tongue. No one would joke about their own life. Instead, it was myself who was growing more anxious as time passed by, with only half an hour left.

Finally, it was my turn. I took a deep breath and walked towards the fat policeman.

He first asked me to describe the scene of Wang Rui's death, and as I spoke, the young policeman beside him took notes.

When I was halfway through, the fat policeman waved his hand, signaling me to stop.

"No need to continue, it's all the same damn thing."

The fat policeman impatiently lit a cigarette and his small eyes stared at me, making me uneasy. After exhaling smoke, he said:

"Kid, you're the last one in your class to give a statement. I need to tell you something. What happened in your class is not just a simple coincidence. The case from seven years ago also happened here. If you know anything, you must tell me! Remember, you must tell me!"

He intentionally emphasized the last two sentences. I was torn inside, whether to believe this policeman or not, but the Little Devil's words kept running wild in my mind. I could only grit my teeth and shake my head.

The fat policeman lowered his head disappointedly, grinned, patted my shoulder, and signaled his subordinates to leave.

Relieved, I watched the fat policeman leave. Perhaps this person might actually help us in the end, but what was the case he mentioned from seven years ago?

Suddenly, I realized I didn't have much time left. I glanced at my phone and saw that there were about ten minutes remaining.

At the same time, I noticed an unread message, a text message on my phone.

"Xiang Nan, it's Su. I'm waiting for you in the cafeteria. Come quickly."

It was actually from Su, and it was a text message. Excitement filled me as I tightly held my phone, but I forced myself to calm down and quickly ran towards the cafeteria.

The school wasn't large, so it only took me a minute or two to reach there. It was class time now, and everyone was in their classrooms except for our class.

Soon, I saw Su standing in the corner, wearing a white shirt. When she saw me approaching, she blushed slightly and lowered her head.

I pretended to be calm as I walked over, but the closer I got to her, the faster my heart raced.

"Su, did you look for me?"

Su raised her delicate face and looked at me, biting her lip as she whispered:

"Xiang Nan, have you always liked me?"

She asked so directly that I was momentarily caught off guard, but in the end, I nodded. Honestly, I realized I was quite cowardly.

Su took a step towards me, emanating a pleasant fragrance. Gathering my courage, I looked up at her.

Her face was already flushed, and she spoke up, saying:

"What you just said in front of our classmates is also what I hope for. I don't want any more classmates to die."

She paused for a moment and continued:

"Since you like me, I'll give you a chance to be my boyfriend. The condition is that you must rank in the top 20 of our class in the final exams. Then, you can kiss me. Consider it a bet. If you fulfill what I said, you can get the kiss back. If you fail, you won't have another chance."

After finishing her words, Su suddenly reached out and hooked her hands around my neck. Her soft and warm lips instantly pressed against mine. I felt dizzy, as it was my first time being in such close contact with a girl, and I believed it was her first time too.

I could feel the warmth of her skin, her pounding heartbeat, and her nervous little tongue clumsily exploring with a pleasant fragrance.

In that moment, it seemed like I had forgotten everything until my vibrating phone in my pocket interrupted us.

Both Su and I trembled and released each other's hands.

Su pursed her lips and asked me softly:

"Has the 30 seconds passed?"

I scratched my head and nodded, saying:

"Almost, I guess. It should be close."

"As long as it's close enough."

Su nodded after speaking and turned around, walking away with her hands behind her back.

"Su!"

I called out to Su.

"Hmm?"

After taking a deep breath, I looked firmly at Su and said:

"I won't let you down in the final exams!"

Su bit her lip to hold back a smile, swayed her body, and muttered:

"Who cares?"

Then, Su and I walked towards the classroom, one after the other. Everyone had returned to their classrooms by now, and I noticed that their gazes towards us had changed.

Especially Wu Yuncheng and Zhang Bin, their eyes seemed like they wanted to kill me.

I knew that from now on, I had started a feud with these two.

I wondered if they had seen me kissing Su in the cafeteria just now?

After returning to my seat and sitting down, I took out my phone and realized that the little devil in the group had sent a message earlier.

"Xiang Nan completed the game, and the red envelope amount has increased to 400 yuan."

Su's face instantly turned red. I couldn't help feeling a little bit of excitement in my heart. After all, not everyone could say they kissed their goddess.

Then, the little devil added another message:

"Classmates, continue the red envelope game. The lucky winner will have a s****l relationship with Zhao Lili within two days, with a time limit."
