Suvi, burdened with two bags of shopping, pushed little Ben in his carriage along the main thoroughfare of Cloudy Bay. The bitter wind picked up, a brutal reminder of an approaching winter storm. She stopped to tuck a scrap of blanket around the baby and he gave her a sleepy gurgle. The streets were crowded with shoppers; a constant stream of pedestrians dividing around her and reforming on the other side. Suvi did not notice them. Her eyes, her words and her world focused only on the blond, blue-eyed tot in the battered black carriage.
