ISABELLA The grandmother in law, Emma, had always treated me with cold reserve. I could never quite understand why she seemed to dislike me so intensely. She would often make snide comments about my appearance, or my lack of high-society manners. I tried my best to be polite and respectful, but it seemed like nothing I did was ever good enough for her. I could see the disdain in her eyes whenever she looked at me, and it was impossible to ignore the icy politeness of her words. “Hello to you too, grandma. I am doing well. Thanks for asking.” I smiled innocently as Christian stood by my side. “Do you think that I care about your well-being?” Emma asked as her gaze turned from me to Nova who was sleeping on my husband's shoulder. “Show me its face.” She demanded and I clenched my jaw.
