Brian Loves Me and Not You

For the nineteen-year-old Lotus, this marriage was sacred, as her grandfather had arranged it for her. She had in fact started looking forward to meet Brian Lesley everyday. The engagement was supposed to take place in the next one month and wedding the following month. 

It was one day when suddenly Lotus was taken aback. Brian asked her to sleep with her. She was shocked but she explained him very politely that she would rather wait for the wedding night. She felt very weird when he asked her out of the blue. Brian didn’t say a word and left her. In those two months whenever he used to come home, he would spend time away from her. One day she found him with her younger sister, Lisa, in the swimming pool of the house located in the basement. She was wearing a bikini while he was standing right in front of her and she had clutched his neck tightly. She couldn’t understand why was the water around them rippling so much. When she was going near them, she heard her stepmother, Vera call loudly. “Where are you going? Come here and help me make food for Brian!” 

Lotus was very shocked but she let the incident pass because of her grandfather. Little did she know that there were schemes going against her in that house. Her grandmother wanted Lisa to marry Brian at any cost.  

On the day of her wedding:

“Do you think that I would have married you only because of your beautiful face? You don’t have the class and charm that your younger sister has.” Said Brian Lesley when he saw Lotus standing on the entrance of the villa of the resort he was staying in. Wearing a beautiful white wedding gown, she looked ethereal. 

“Brian Lesley, this is ridiculous. Why are you talking like this? We are supposed to get engaged today and now you are holed in this villa. What will happen to my grandfather if he will know what you are up to?” said Lotus. She was disgusted at the man in front of her. He had no consideration for her grandfather’s reputation. 

“Who is there?” came a shrill voice from behind just like that of her grandmother’s. 

Lotus was shocked to the core. Her face became ashen white. So it was true. Her younger sister Lisa was having a relationship with the man her grandfather betrothed her with. 

Lisa came out and peaked from the side of Brian Lesley. “Oh, so it is my elder sister Lotus.” She laughed sarcastically. “Sister, did you think that Brian liked you ever? You are so foolish. You couldn’t even see our budding love because you were so blinded by your innocence.” 

Lisa circled her arms around Brian Lesley and continued, “Brian loves me and not you.” 

“How could you cheat on your sister in such matters?” said Lotus with tears in her eyes. “Have you no regard to grandfather’s reputation?”

“Are you calling me a cheater?” shouted Lisa. “Brian, see she is calling me a cheater in front of you.” 

Suddenly Brian Lesley came in front of Lotus and slapped her tightly. Lotus fell down on the floor holding her cheek with her hand that was now burning with pain. “How dare you say anything to my woman?” he shouted. 

Lotus looked up at the two of them as her tears came unbridled. She didn’t know that they had gone ahead to this extent. She managed to get up and even though she wanted to run away from there, she said, “Brian Lesley, this is the matter of my grandfather’s reputation. He was the one who chose you for me and I respect that decision. Today is our engagement. Everybody is waiting for you in the house. Please come back with me and don’t ruin the status of my grandfather. It would be a shock to him. As such he is a heart patient. I am willing to forgive you for my grandfather’s sake.” 

Brian Lesley sneered and replied, “You think that I am going to get engaged with you only because your grandfather wants it? Remember, it is not my family that needs your family’s help. It is your family that needs help. So if they want help, tell them that I will get engaged and come to that party only if they change the daughter!” 

It was at this time that from behind, her stepmother, Vera came. “So you have come here also to create a drama?” she said and held Lotus’s arms. She dragged her out of the villa’s porch and threw her out. “Get out and don’t come in between my daughter’s happiness!” 

“B- but mother-”

“Get out!” she shouted. 

When Lotus gave this information to her grandfather, he couldn’t bear the shock. Her grandmother was standing right next to him. She shouted at Lotus, “You stupid girl. Just because you couldn’t handle Brian properly, all this has happened.” 

Her Grandfather held Lotus’s hand and a tear rolled out of his eyes. What messy situation he had put his favorite grandchild into. He wiped her tears and said, “Sorry.” But just after saying sorry, he collapsed and fell on the floor. He suffered a massive heart attack. 

“Grandfather!” shouted Lotus as she sat down next to him. She shook him but was soon removed by her grandmother. Martha asked the servants to take her husband to the hospital immediately. The party was dismissed and Lotus was literally thrown out of the house by her grandmother who dragged her to the main door and closed it on her face asking her to never come back. 

Lotus banged the door until her hands became soar but then had to leave. Where would she go? She left the premises to go to her mother’s apartment because that was the only place she knew. It was late in the evening and she was walking towards her school in the wedding gown that she had been wearing since morning. Suddenly she saw five burly men running towards her. 

“There she is!” said one of them as he pointed at her.

“Yes, catch her. Martha has ordered us to kill her and throw her body in the river!” said another as he increased his pace. 

Lotus was shocked to hear them. She turned and started running in the opposite direction. She couldn’t believe that her grandmother would become so malicious. She ran as best as she could but those burly men were nearing her. When she was about a hundred meters away from them, suddenly out of nowhere, a hand grabbed her dress and pulled her in a dark alley. Aghast, she looked at the person who did that, but to her surprise before she could do anything that man pressed her to the wall and sealed his lips on hers. That was her first kiss! She tried to push him away but he wouldn’t budge. Her efforts were weak as he covered her from all sides and pressed his thin lips on hers. 

Slowly he whispered, “If you want to stay alive, stay put.” She froze. 

The men who were chasing her ran ahead without noticing them in the alley. Once they were far away, he removed himself from her and looked down at her beautiful face as a faint light fell on it. Unable to resist, he caressed her cheek with his knuckles. How could god make such beautiful people? He was about to kiss her again when she pushed him away with whatever little force she had. He fell back slightly. 

It was so dark in the alley that she couldn’t even see his face as he was standing against the only night lamp. He had stolen her first kiss! She was scared that they might come back again to kill her, so she simply darted off leaving the man behind. Somehow she reached her mother’s apartment where she found Samantha Summers. 

She was traumatized, depressed and desolate for six months. Everything happened in one day. How could Martha send goons after her to kill her after her grandfather collapsed? Samantha Summers had to get a lawyer and move to court to give her protection from the Hampton family.
