Episode 7: The Stranger’s Rescue

434 Words
The forest was eerily quiet after the rogues fled, the silence broken only by Aria’s ragged breathing. Her shoulder throbbed with every heartbeat, warm blood soaking through her cloak. She pressed her hand to the wound, fighting the dizziness that threatened to pull her under. Then—footsteps. She staggered back, dagger raised, expecting the rogues to return. Instead, a tall figure emerged from the shadows. A hood concealed his face, but the authority in his stance was undeniable. His very presence carried weight, like the forest itself bowed to him. “You shouldn’t be here alone,” his voice was deep, calm, yet commanding. Aria’s wolf stirred inside her, not in fear but in recognition. Power. Strength. Something more than human. “I didn’t choose to be here,” she said hoarsely, her weapon trembling in her grasp. The figure moved closer, slow and deliberate. “I know who you are.” His tone was steady, not accusing, almost curious. “The rejected one. Cast out for being weak.” Her jaw tightened. She hated the label, yet it was the truth. He stopped a few paces away, raising his hands slightly to show he meant no harm. “But I saw how you fought. You’re no weakling. That fire inside you… it’s only beginning to surface.” Aria blinked, unsure whether to feel insulted or intrigued. “And what would you know about me?” The man’s hood shifted as he glanced toward the blood still dripping from her wound. With a swift motion, he tore a strip of cloth from his cloak and stepped forward. Before she could protest, he wrapped it tightly around her shoulder. His touch was firm, steady, not cruel. “You survived an attack that would’ve ended most outcasts,” he said quietly. “That means something.” His words ignited a flicker of hope within her. Could it be true? Could the strength she always doubted be waiting to awaken? Before she could ask more, the stranger straightened and looked toward the dark forest. His sharp gaze lingered, as if sensing danger beyond what she could see. “You won’t last alone,” he said finally. “But with guidance, you might discover what you’re truly capable of.” Aria tightened her grip on her dagger, her mistrust warring with curiosity. He was still a mystery—a stranger whose presence commanded both caution and awe. But in her heart, she knew one thing: this encounter was no accident. The rejection had broken her… but this rescue hinted at a destiny that was far from over.
