Episode 2: The Alpha’s Mate – Revelation of the Heir

911 Words
The morning sun crept through the wooden shutters of Aria’s small room, but its warmth did nothing to ease the heaviness in her chest. Sleep had been no refuge. All night, she had tossed and turned, her mind replaying the ritual, the shock in the Elder’s eyes, and the whispers of the pack as they branded her cursed. Most haunting of all was the voice that had stirred within her. You are meant to rule. Those words had settled deep into her bones, filling her with both strength and dread. She sat up, clutching her knees to her chest. Her wolf stirred again, low and steady. “You cannot hide from what you felt last night.” Aria shut her eyes tightly. That pull… that bond. What is it? “Your mate.” Her heart skipped. She didn’t want to believe it, but the strange tether that had wrapped itself around her during the ritual hadn’t faded. If anything, it had only grown stronger, tugging at her like an invisible chain whenever she tried to ignore it. Voices outside her window broke her thoughts. The pack grounds were already alive with chatter, and though she couldn’t make out every word, she didn’t need to. The whispers would all be about her. “Cursed wolf.” “Dangerous aura.” “She’s bound to bring trouble.” Aria drew a deep breath. She would face them. She always had. By midday, the pack had gathered in the training field. The Alpha had ordered drills for the younger wolves, and though Aria usually kept to herself, she was required to attend. The field buzzed with energy as warriors sparred and pups practiced forms under their parents’ watchful eyes. Aria felt the stares the moment she stepped onto the grass. Some wolves nudged each other, others openly glared, but none dared speak to her directly. Then it happened. The tug in her chest tightened like a rope being yanked. Her pulse quickened. Her wolf stirred. “He is here.” Aria’s eyes scanned the field. That was when she saw him. Caius Blackthorn—the Alpha’s only son and heir. He stood tall at the edge of the field, overseeing the training with the authority of someone who had been born to command. His dark hair caught the sunlight, his eyes sharp as steel, his presence radiating dominance that silenced even the rowdiest wolves. Wherever he walked, others bowed their heads instinctively. Aria froze. Her chest clenched as the bond snapped into place, undeniable and heavy. Her wolf’s voice thundered inside her. “There is no mistake." He is your mate. Aria staggered backward, her breath caught in her throat. Of all the wolves, why him? The heir, the strongest among them, the one destined to rule after his father. She, the so-called cursed one, bound to him? The whispers started again as others noticed the way her aura flared when her eyes locked onto Caius. “No… it can’t be…” “The cursed wolf tied to the Alpha’s heir?” “This is a disaster.” Caius’s gaze finally fell on her. For a heartbeat, the world stalled. His nostrils flared as he caught her scent, his wolf recognizing the bond as clearly as she did. His eyes narrowed—not with welcome, but with suspicion. He stepped forward slowly, each movement deliberate, commanding. The crowd parted for him until he stood a few paces from her. The air between them crackled with the weight of the bond. But instead of acceptance, Caius’s voice was cold. “So… it’s you.” Aria swallowed hard, fighting to steady her trembling hands. She wanted to deny it, to walk away, but the bond held her in place. Caius’s eyes narrowed further. “The cursed child of the Blackwoods… fated to be bound to me?” His tone dripped with disdain. “What cruel trick is this?” Gasps rippled along the field. Some wolves muttered in agreement, others simply looked on in shock. Aria’s lips parted, but no words came. Inside her, her wolf growled in warning. “Do not bow to him." You are his equal. But how could she believe that, when every pair of eyes in the field looked at her with fear or pity? Caius stepped closer, his voice low enough only she could hear. “If you think this bond gives you power, you’re wrong. I don’t need a cursed mate. And I won’t accept you.” The words cut deep, but Aria forced herself to stand tall, meeting his glare with one of her own. She would not crumble—not here, not now. Her wolf’s voice whispered again. “He can deny you all he wants. The bond cannot be broken. In time, he will see. But beware, Aria… for he may also become your greatest enemy.” The tension between them was thick enough to choke the air. Finally, Caius turned his back, his dismissal as sharp as a blade. The training resumed, though the whispers never ceased. Aria stood frozen in place, her chest tight, her future more uncertain than ever. Mate to the Alpha heir. Cursed by the pack. Bound by destiny. She clenched her fists, fire sparking in her veins. If Caius thought she would bow her head and accept rejection, he was wrong. The moon had chosen. And whether the pack liked it or not, Aria Blackwood’s story was only just beginning.
