When class ended, I met up with Jake who sat in the back of the classroom in English. As soon as I walked over to him, a large grin plastered his face, and he went to punch me in the chest like he always does. This time was different than the rest though. I saw his arm crawl at a snail's pace toward my chest. “You didn’t tell me about a gi-”
“Mali Quomodo miser homo fuit leuare manus contra me,” a voice in my head said. I could understand exactly what it said. “How dare a human raise a hand against me.”
My body acted on its own. I grabbed his wrist half-way to my chest. I saw a flash in my mind of what I was about to do. It took every ounce of willpower that I had, not to do what I had seen. Grabbing his wrist is as far as I went.
“Dude, what the hell!” Jake shouted.
I quickly looked around the room, nobody was in the room at the time, as it has only been like thirty seconds since the bell, and Mr. H had gone to the restroom.
“Sam, what’s wrong with your eyes,” he said staring into them.
I looked in the mirror we had located in the back of the room. My eyes had specs of gold in them. Not full-blown gold, just small specs.
Why am I getting such a sense of deja vu, I thought to myself.
I started pacing around the room, confused. Jake was spitting out a million questions that I was wondering myself. He kept going on and on and on.
“Jake!” I said glaring at him, “forget it, let me think.”
He instantly looked like he was on the forehead by something. His head snapped back, and his body went limp. When he opened his eyes, he looked around the room, confused. “Did class end?” he asked, looking around the room.
What the hell just happened?
“Yea, it ended about a minute ago, you fell asleep, I was just in the process of waking you up,” I said with a dry mouth.
“s**t, my last class is across the campus, I’d better get going,” he said slinging his backpack across his shoulder. “Oh, and you're telling me about you and that girl tonight.”
“You can’t come over tonight,” I said, thinking quickly.
His shoulders slumped. “What do you mean? You turn seventeen tomorrow, and we were supposed to pull an all-nighter.”
“I know, but it’s a school night, and James decided not to go to the bar, and…” I slumped my shoulders. “I’m sorry, but we still have the weekend to hang out at your place.” If I can figure out what is going on with me.
“Yea, okay, I guess I'll see you tomorrow then?” he asked.
“Yea, you know me, with all these AP-classes I take, if I miss school, it’s because I died.”
“Alroooight, I’ll see you then,” he said while we did our departure handshake.
“Three minutes till the bell, you’d better get going,” I told him. I didn’t have to worry as much because my calculus class was right across the hall.
After he left, I sat there for another minute. I had no idea what was happening to me. I remember splitting ways with Jake at lunch, and I remember staring into Alexis’s eyes after. What happened in between. More importantly, what happened with Jake just now. I caught his wrist mid punch, and then made him forget about the whole altercation just by telling him to. Then there were my eyes. They had a golden tint to them. And most importantly, the voice in my head.
“What is going on?!” I said in a strained whisper.
That's when I looked at my desk to see a folded slip of paper on them. I opened them to read a note.
“You should have this so next time we don’t have to lie about it.” The note was followed by her number and a smiley face.
I couldn’t help but forget about all my problems, and enjoy this moment in time.
Then the tardy bell rang.
