After all the days and nights working our asses off killing who knows what and even can remember what we're going after or evening killing, we finally got to a point we stopped and took a little break. I needed it and so did the boys. Dean was worried about me, of course, but also John. We haven't found another lead since 3 or 4 missions ago. It's been about a week or so since we really done anything since route 666 and the witch that was killing the children. And that was the last time I even saw or heard from my father.
I know Randy said he'd come to me when he can. But I wasn't putting my hopes up for anything. I know he's trying to keep me safe from harm from both the good and the bad. But one of these days my dream is gonna come true, even if I can stop it or not.
We finally got to Nebraska, where we thought John was sending us to but haven't found or heard anything truthfully. We pulled into a cafe, it was about 9 in the morning when we finally decided to stop. We walked into and sat at a booth and ordered some breakfast and waited til we found out something or whatever came to us.
Dean was flipping through a newspaper, while Sam was on his laptop. Either way, they were both gonna find something or nothing at all. I leaned against the window and tried to listen to whatever or even get pulled into a dream where my father can talk to me.
Dean folded the paper. "Well dude. Not a decent lead in all of Nebraska. What've you got?"
"Well, I've been scanning Wyoming, Colorado, South Dakota. Here. A woman in Iowa fell 10,000 feet from an airplane and survived." Sam had said making me look over at him.
"What? There's no way that could have happened." I said kinda loud.
"Sounds more like 'That's Incredible' than, uh, 'Twilight Zone'." Dean said looking over at me.
"Yeah. I was just thinking the same thing." Sam said not looking up from the laptop.
Dean smirking. "Hey you know we could just keep heading east. New York. Upstate. We could drop by and see Sarah again. Huh? Cool chick man, smokin'." he whistles. "You two seemed pretty friendly. What do you say?"
"Who's Sarah?" I asked acting kinda jealous.
"A girl that Sam had a crush on back in the day. She was really smokin' hot I tell yeah." Dean said looking over at me. I glared at him. "What she was, but she wasn't my type?"
I smirked. "Please, what's your type then Dean?"
"Someone that is smart, very pretty. Caring, kind. Knows how to hold her own, where she don't need a man to be there right by her side." Dean was saying.
As he was saying all those things, I was thinking he was talking about me. Because I don't need a man to help me, I can hold my own if I want to. I started blushing some when I caught him staring at me like I knew he was talking about me.
Sam looked at me and smiled. It was like he knew his brother was talking about me as well just didn't want to mess up the moment. But did anyways.
"Yeah, I dunno, maybe someday. But in the meantime we got a lot of work to do Dean, and you know that." Sam said as he looked back at the laptop.
"Yeah all right. What else you got?" Dean asked.
"Ahh, man in Colorado, local man named Daniel Elkins, was found mauled in his home." Sam said.
"Elkins? I know that name." Dean said.
That name did seem familiar, but where can I place my tongue on it. I grabbed my bag that had some things in it until I can across John's journal.
"Doesn't ring a bell." Sam said. "Sounds like the police don't know what to think. At first they said it was some sort of bear attack and now, they've found some signs of robbery."
Starts flicking through John's journal, until I came across 'Elkins'. "Here, check it out." I said as I pointed it out to the others. "'D Elkins 970-555-0158'"
"You think it's the same Elkins?" Sam asked.
"It's a Colorado area code." Dean said.
"Then let's check it out. Maybe we can find something out there since we haven't found s**t here or anywhere else. And maybe it can help me find a read or hope my father can/come to me." I said, as I put the journal back into my bag and drunk the rest of my coffee.
The brother's nodded as I said that. Sam closed the laptop and put it in its bag as Dean got up to stretch before laying down a few dollars for a tip. Even though we don't have it, but I get it. It didn't want to feel rude for sitting there forever doing nothing, really.
As we got into the Impala, we drove to Colorado where Elkins was located.
As the Impala cruises down the road, snow-capped mountains in the background. It was beautiful, just never thought I'd see something like this in my life. And here I was, staring out the window, while Dean was driving carefully.
By the time we got to where we needed to go, it was nighttime. Took us a few days to get here but we made it. We pulled up to a cabin in the woods. It looked kinda creepy, but I didn't say a word about it.
As we got out, I leaned against the Impala with my arms wrapped around me since I was still cold even though I have a jacket on. The boys went to the cabin to try to get in. As the door opens slowly after Sam putting away his lock pick, Dean went in first with a flashlight.
I went in after they got the door open, looking around at the mess. "Looks like the maid didn't come today." I mumbled.
"Hey, there's salt over here. Right beside the door." Sam said.
Dean found Elkins' journal and started flicking through journal. "You mean protection against demon salt, or 'oops I spilled the popcorn' salt." Dean said trying to make a joke.
"Demon salt for sure, because it's trying to hold me in place. I can't fully come in." I said, still holding myself together to stay warm.
Dean looked over my way. "Go back to the car, you can stay warm there." he said before looking back to the journal.
"No, I'm gonna stay right here where I can see y'all just in case something comes up."
"It's clearly a ring. You think this guy Elkins was a player?" Sam said changing the subject.
"Definitely." Dean said.
Sam came up behind Dean. "That looks a hell of a lot like Dad's."
"Yep, except these dates back to the 60s."
As they were talking, I leaned against the door, feeling like someone was watching us. I thought it was my father at first. But I didn't smell sulfur. I smelt other things. Things I've never smelted before.
As I watched Sam and Dean move into the other room and shine their flashlights around the destruction, including up at the hole in the roof that I can see from the door. I wasn't liking them being too far from me as it was, but the feeling that someone was out here with me was more frightening than anything else. And it takes a lot out of me to be scared.
I heard a noise come from behind, I turned around to see what it was. I grabbed the flashlight that I had in my pocket of my coat and turned it on and faced it towards the woods. I swear I thought I saw something leaning against a tree, but I wasn't sure what it was. I went to walk a little closer, but not too far where I couldn't hear the brothers.
Whatever it was, it was gone. I turned around and went back to the door and leaned in. "Guys. Did y'all find anything. I'm not liking being out here by myself. Its' creepy as f**k out here." I whined some.
The boys came back close to the door as Dean peels out a piece of paper, which has a lot of blood on the back, and hands the paper to Sam. "Look familiar?"
"Three letters, six digits. The location and combination of a post office box. It's a mail drop." Sam says.
"Just the way Dad does it." Dean said.
"So, let's go to wherever the drop box is located in the morning, please. I just want to get out of here." I said as Dean walked over to me.
"Yeah, it is late and your cold." He said.
"Well, not just that. I feel like were being watched and its' not Randy. Nor a demon either."
"Are you sure?" Dean asked at the same time Sam asked. "What about an Angel?"
"Yes, I'm sure and not them either." I said as we walked back towards the car.
Before getting in, I took once last look around and the feeling I was feeling was gone like it was never there in the first place. Maybe I was over thinking it since I was in the wood in the middle of the night. It made me think of that scary movie, Uncle Bobby made me see when I was a kid. 'Cabin in the Woods.' Never wanted to see it ever again. But feel like I'm living it at this point in time.
As we got into the car, we drove to the closest hotel for the night until morning. As we woke up, we drove to the post office to find this box of Elkins'. The boys had a feeling, and you know when you have one of those, you can't shake it off.
Dean opens the post office box; Sam and I was at his side. He removes a letter, stares, and shows it to Sam. They look at each other, confused. They grabbed everything that was in the box, and we all went back to the car.
As we got to the car, we went to get some food and talked about what they found. As we ate in the car, it was getting late once again. Fast.
As we were parked in front of the hotel, I was laying in the back seat while the boys were going through the stuff that was in the box.
"'J.W.' You think? John Winchester?" Sam asked.
"I don't know. Should we open it?" Dean asked.
There is a knock-on Dean's window. We all gasps, I sat up right as Dean rears back, automatically raising his arm, fist clenched. It's John Winchester. When John sees he has shocked them he smiles.
"Dad?" Dean says.
John gets in the backseat with me. He pats my leg as he shuts the door.
"Dad, what are you doing here? Are you all, right?" Sam asked?"
"Yeah, I'm ok. I read the news about Daniel; I got here as fast as I could. I saw you two at his place." John said.
"Wait you were there. Your who I thought was watching us. I had a feeling someone was watching us, and you couldn't have come out to say or do something?" I asked him.
John just looked at me with a sorry look and rubbed my leg. "Sorry. I saw you were looking around and when you turned your flashlight on and started to look around, and when you pointed it my way, I moved more against the tree, so you didn't see me. At first, I thought it was someone else. Especially the ones that attacked Elkins'." He said.
Sam softly spoke. "Why didn't you come in Dad?"
"You know why. Because I had to make sure you weren't followed.... by anyone or anything. Nice job of covering your tracks by the way." John said.
Dean looking a little proud. "Yeah, well, we learned from the best."
"Wait, you came all the way out here for this Elkins guy?" Sam asked.
"Yeah. He was... he was a good man. He taught me a hell of a lot about hunting." John asked.
"Well, you never mentioned him to us." Sam said.
"We had a... we had kind of a falling out. I hadn't seen him in years." said looking at the envelope. "I should look at that." He opens it. "'If you're reading this, I'm already dead'... that son of a bitch." John says out loud.
"What is it?" we asked.
"He had it the whole time."
"Dad, what?"
"When you searched the place, did you, did you see a gun? An antique, a revolver, did you see it?"
"Ah, there was, there was an old case but it was empty." Dean said.
"They have it."
"Have what?" I asked at the same time Dean had said. "You mean whatever killed Elkins?"
John started to get out of the car. "We gotta pick up the trail."
"Wait. You want us to come with you?" Sam asked.
"If Elkins was telling the truth, we gotta find this gun."
"The gun -- why?" Sam asked his father.
"Because it's important, that's why."
"Why is it so important, John? What kind of gun is it? We don't even know what these things are yet." I said.
"They were what Daniel Elkins killed best: Vampires."
"Vampires? I thought there was no such thing." Both Dean and I said at the same time.
"You never even mentioned them, Dad." Sam said.
"I thought they were extinct. I thought Elkins and -- and others had wiped them out. I was wrong." John said then got out of the car and went to his truck.
I looked at the others like, 'what the f**k just happened?', but no one said anything we about it. John had left to go where, guessing to get food since it was getting late. I was getting tired and wanted the bed, so I got out of the car and went inside the hotel. The boys decided to follow me as well.
About 5-10 minutes later, there was a knock on the door and Dean opened the door and saw it was John again. He came into the hotel with food and beer. Felt like old times back when we first did our mission a few months back. I was sitting on mine and Deans bed when he came in. I smiled at him when he came in and sat the stuff on the table. He walked over to me and handed me my food and beer before going back to the table and sitting down.
"You remember what I drink." I said.
"Yes, do I. So how have you been since we last saw each other, Heather?" John asked me.
"Umm, hmm.... Okay, I guess. I'm getting more in control of my powers. Had a few mishandling moments here and there but other than that great." I told him.
"Sammy, how have you been?" he asked, Sam.
"Ok, other than my girlfriend burning alive just like mother was. But I'm peachy."
"I thought I found that yellow-eye bastard a while back but came across nothing." John said.
"Don't worry dad, we get him." Dean said after finishing up his food then getting up and walking over to me. "I'm gonna take a hot shower, are you gonna be okay for a little bit?" he asked me.
"Yeah, I think so. If I need anything Sam or John can help."
Dean nodded then kissed my forehead before heading into the bathroom. John looked our way for a moment then turn to look at Sam. Sam shrugged then went back to his laptop.
After Dean shut the door to the bathroom, John looked back over to me and spoke. "Can I ask what that was all about?"
"John, its not what you think it is."
"What that you and my son are a thing now."
"No, we're not even that. I mean we are but were not. We're taking it slow. It's just I've been off on my powers and its been making me feel off and what not. Ask Sam, Dean's just being there for me."
"Dad, Dean is helping Heather in whatever way he possibly can. Heather's been getting back to she needs to be. She had a problem with herself, but we are getting her right back to where she needs to be."
"What happened?"
"A few missions ago, I used a lot of my powers where I could've killed myself. I was saving the boys and well Dean saw what I was doing and didn't like it. Since we've been together, he's been more supported of me and caring about me. And truly dooly, I love Dean with all my heart, I just don't know if he feels the same way about me, you know."
John nodded at me before throwing his trash away then going outside. He came back in a few minutes later with a cop radio and was messing with it, to hear if there are things going on. A few minutes later, Dean came out in his boxers and got into bed with me. He looked over at me before I got up to go take my shower. I smiled down at him before leaning over to kiss him on his cheek. I didn't want John to say anything, but he wasn't even looking over at us. Sam looked up when I got up and went into the bathroom for my shower. I wasn't in long; I was more tired than anything. I put on deodorant and lotion then Dean's shirt that he gave me with my bootie shorts. I walked out of the bathroom and got into mine and Dean's bed and laid down next to him.
He was still awake, just lying there watching whatever was on tv until I climbed next to him. He looked at me and smiled before patting the bed next to him to cuddle up with him. I looked over at John for a moment that thought, 'What the heck.' Dean saw me look over at his father then back at me and shrugged his shoulders. I smiled at him as I laid next to him. He kissed my forehead as I laid my head on his chest.
Dean knew how much he meant to me but was it enough to follow his heart though.
I fallen asleep after a few minutes of watching whatever Dean was watching. I couldn't stay awake anymore. I needed my rest. While falling asleep, I kept hearing guys talk on the police scanner, but it wasn't bothering me much than I thought it would. It kinda helped but it didn't help me about worrying about what's going on out there though.
