With breakfast over, the adults and children went to the centre of the village and gathered around a cenotaph containing the ashes of their dead founder and his wife. A smiling elderly man sat in his wheelchair in front of a smooth white marble statue on the cenotaph and after giving a brief but rousing speech, he went silent. The people smiled up at the statue of a stern-faced man holding a book in one hand and a gun in the other, with a marble hairy leach under his nose, snapped to attention, and saluted the statue.
