Chapter 14Sitting opposite the Chief in the dining room at White’s, Stephen Conran licked his upper lip, then caught himself and stopped. It was a nervous habit and the Chief would spot it at once. Stephen had never joined White’s or any of the elite private clubs, though his father had been a member until his death. Stephen found the atmosphere stifling.
