I walked as faster as my short legs could allow trying to reach Nicolette. I could have shouted to heh her to wait for me but I don't want to catch the bullies attention. I am in absolutely zero mood to deal with their stupid insults. Though I guess it was too late as someone bumped into me from behind hard enough to make me fall and scrape my hands.
"Get out of my way midget." Andrew the biggest bully said. I couldn't move just in case my hands were bleeding even the tiniest of blood.
"OK, have it your way" he said that while stepping on my hands.
I moaned in pain but didn't move a muscle as Andrew's friends followed in his foot steps. I doubt I will be able to use my right hands in first period because I feel like my fingers are broken. Looking around I noticed most of the kids didn't spare me a glance, that was good as I had to wake up as discreetly as I could. When I was sure no one was looking I turned my palms and to my horror they, were scraped and lightly bleeding, though to everyone else I looked as if I had spilled green ink on my palms, or so I hoped that's what they thought. Using my left arm I reached for the dark green handkerchief I had in' my pocket and used it to wipe the green smudges on the floor. Just as I was done Nicolette was offering her hands to help me stand up.
MY mind began racing and instead of reaching out to her I started formulating excuses from the green smudge. Everything that came to mind sounded crazy and I couldn't come up with one plausible idea. My body began shaking I was getting a panic attack. Before it got any worse I was wrapped in familiar arms a familiar voice whispering over and over again that I was okay. I relaxed in her arms and whispered my thanks to her.
"Did they spill your green ink again boo?" Nicolette asked gently. She knew how much I loved my green ink. I still feel guilty for lying to her like that but I had to keep my blood a secret: she had found me when we were in middle school crying while I was wiping green smudges from my hands and I had to lie to her that the bullies had spilled my green ink which I loved very much. Before then I had never used a green pen but I began carrying around a pen and ink.
"yes_" I wanted to say more but I wasn't sure.
"don't worry hunny, here I brought extra for you." I took the ink from her with a huge smile on my face, I don't really need the ink but the gesture made me glad to have her as a friend.
"thank you Nico, you are my knightess in shining armor."
"there is no such a thing as knightess Nixy, a knight is a knight!" I looked at her as if she had said the most stupid thing in the world.
"I bet you _"
"Hey freaks! Get out of my way." A voice said from behind me, before I could turn to see who it was, Nico was already on her feet.
"Say the f word one more time Stan," She said while folding imaginary sleeves.
"Freaks" Stan said slowly but as soon as he was done he had been slapped by Nico. Before Stan could retaliate, the bell rang signaling the beginning of the first lesson.
Stan was fidgeting clearly wanting to retaliate and defend his manhood but Nico was already pulling me towards AP mathematics not caring for the murmurs prevalent in the corridor. I jog-walked behind her trying to catch up while at the same time not missing the excitement of the students we passed. Something was definitely happening, I really wish Nico would slow down so I could listen in.
