CHAPTER 6
LUNA MOONCREST
TWISTED
I was engulfed in a mix of fear and shock as I heard those words.
Ryder was definitely not going to have it easy on me as soon as he found out that I was pregnant, knowing fully well he was not responsible for it.
On one fateful day, as I was about to sneak out of the packhouse to visit the pack doctor, Ryder's voice called out to me from a distance.
“Where do you think you are going?”
I froze at the spot instantly, my mind engulfed with betraying thoughts. I was literally shaking, and it was obvious something was about to go awry with him questioning me that way.
I tried to fake a smile, but I guess it was already too late. “Where are you going?” He repeated the question, this time around in a more fierce tone.
He walked up to the gate and locked it firmly, preventing me from having any opportunity to step out.
I lowered my head before him as it was too difficult to look him up in the face. “I… I was only trying to…”
“Don’t you dare lie to me!” He warned fiercely, before I could say anything. He spoke with so much determination like he knew I was about to lie to him.
At this point I had no other choice but to let it all out. Hiding it from him was going to do me more harm than good and I definitely never wanted that for myself.
“I was on my way to visit the pack doctor.”
“The pack doctor?” Ryder stepped forward and locked his eyes with mine. “Why do you want to visit the pack doctor?”
I froze once again, the weight of his question dawning on me. I had never felt this way in my entire existence.
Telling him about this was one thing I was skeptical about, but somehow, I knew I had to expose the truth to him, at least for my safety.
I looked him up in the eye and all I could see was anxiety piquing in.
“I'm pregnant.” I finally let the news out to him. I wasn't sure what to expect next, so as soon as I was done revealing the truth to him, I took off out of his sight at once.
I could hear his voice as he yelled behind me, but I ran even faster, locking myself up in my room.
He kept banging heavily on the door, but I chose to pay total deaf ears to him. I knew I was in for a long ride, and I was definitely not prepared for any of his troubles right now.
I began to plot various ways to leave without his knowledge.
It was obvious enough that right now that he knew what I had been hiding from him all this while, it would take absolutely no time for him to circulate the news to everyone else.
And since I knew how dangerous that was going to be for me, my only plan was to leave, even though I had no idea where I was going.
After a while, the knock on the door worsened. My heart skipped as it became obvious that Ryder was not giving up anytime soon.
“Hey b***h! Step out here and tell me the bastard who put that thing inside of you.” He yelled out to me in an aggressive tone.
Just when I thought I was free from all the trouble, I heard another voice adding to what he said.
“Aren't you a disgrace, Mooncrest? How could you even go out there and get pregnant for another man when you are clearly under someone here?”
That was Delia's voice. My heart pounded with fear the moment I heard those words.
Delia was not one to always intervene in cases like this, but she always did whenever it was related to me.
The whole atmosphere was gradually turning poisonous for my well being and that of my child.
I just knew I would never be able to cope with this kind of energy around me. I guess it was time I left for my own good and the safety of my pregnancy.
I heaved a deep sigh as the numerous thoughts flooded in, leaving me in a state of total unrest.
I found myself jolting the door open all of a sudden. I stepped out and gathered the courage to face them.
I stared at their grievous faces, lowering my head in regret. Just one night was the reason I had to pass through all these troubles.
“I'm sorry but I just have to do this. It's obvious I'm not welcome here anymore, especially now that I have a child growing within me. I think I just have to leave.”
“No way!” Ryder cut in quickly, his voice laced with conviction. “There's no way you are leaving here with that child. You will only be allowed to leave this palace as soon as you give birth. That way, the child will remain here with us to continue your legacy.”
“But…”
“No buts, Luna.” Delia finally stepped into the picture. As usual, she was on Ryder's side about me staying back till delivery. “You have no right to make any decision for yourself in this palace. Whatever Ryder has said must stand!”
I was totally dumbfounded by their sudden change of mind. I thought they all wanted me and everything concerning me out of their sight. Why were they acting strange all of a sudden?
This is my child we're talking about here. What on earth would ever make me leave my child as soon as I conceive?
Since they obviously didn't want me to leave anymore, I would stay back and take care of my child by myself.
“Okay fine. I've heard you, I'll stay back.” I muttered quietly, like someone who had no other choice.
Of course I had no other choice but to listen to them. I had nowhere else to go, and if I tried to escape from them, they would definitely get their grip on me.
Delia giggled mockingly as she locked her lips into Ryder's.
