CHAPTER SIX : TOO CLOSE

Serena regretted accepting the job almost immediately.
“Why are there so many emails?” she muttered under her breath while staring at Adrian’s laptop in horror.
“It’s called work,” Adrian replied calmly from across the office.
She glared at him. “I preferred unemployment.”
A small smirk appeared on his lips before disappearing just as quickly.
It had been three days since Serena signed the contract.
Three exhausting, confusing, emotionally dangerous days.
She had learned several things about Adrian Knight very quickly.
He barely slept.
He terrified employees without raising his voice.
And somehow… he always noticed everything about her.
“Your coffee is cold,” he said suddenly.
Serena looked up. “What?”
“You haven’t touched it in twenty minutes.”
“That’s concerning.”
“You bite your lip when stressed too.”
Her eyes widened slightly.
“Do you normally study people this much?”
“Only interesting ones.”
There it was again.
That dangerous intensity in his voice.
Serena looked away quickly and focused back on the laptop.
Outside Adrian’s office, rumors had already started spreading through the company.
Who is the new girl?
Why is Adrian Knight keeping her close?
Is she secretly dating him?
The gossip made Serena want to disappear.
Unfortunately, Adrian seemed completely unaffected by it.
