“You’re not wearing that.”
Serena looked down at her outfit before glaring at Adrian. “Excuse me?”
Adrian barely looked up from his laptop. “The charity party starts in two hours.”
“And?”
“And you’re representing Knight Empire tonight.”
She blinked in disbelief. “Since when?”
“Since people started paying attention to you.”
Serena dropped dramatically into the chair across from his desk. “Your world is exhausting.”
A dangerous smirk appeared briefly on his lips. “You’re adapting.”
Before she could argue, a woman entered the office carrying several designer bags.
“Mr. Knight,” she greeted politely. “The dresses have arrived.”
Serena’s eyes widened immediately. “No.”
Adrian finally looked at her. “No?”
“You are not turning me into one of those rich party dolls.”
“That wasn’t the plan.”
“Good.”
“The dresses are still necessary.”
Serena sighed deeply. “I liked life better before you.”
“That’s unfortunate. I didn’t.”
Her heart betrayed her again at those words.
Two hours later, Serena stood nervously in front of the giant mirror inside the hotel suite.
The dark emerald dress fit perfectly against her figure, elegant without trying too hard.
She barely recognized herself.
A knock sounded behind her.
“You’re late,” Adrian’s voice came calmly.
Serena turned around—
And forgot how to breathe for a second.
Black suit.
Silver watch.
Cold grey eyes.
Adrian Knight looked unfairly perfect.
But the moment his gaze landed on her, his expression shifted slightly.
Like even he wasn’t prepared.
The room suddenly felt smaller.
“You clean up nicely,” Serena said softly.
Adrian stepped closer slowly.
“You’re dangerous in that dress.”
Her heartbeat stumbled.
Before she could reply, another voice interrupted sharply.
“Adrian.”
Vanessa.
She stood near the doorway, her expression hardening instantly after seeing Serena beside him.
“You brought her?”
Adrian’s face turned cold again immediately. “Problem?”
Vanessa forced a tight smile. “None at all.”
But Serena saw the jealousy burning in her eyes.
And somehow…
She realized tonight was going to end badly.
