Chapter 39 The Fiancee

  Elena’s POV   He wouldn't slow down.   Jack’s hand was sticky with cotton candy, his laughter echoing through the amusement park as he tugged me toward the carousel. His dark curls bounced with every step, his little sneakers scuffing against the pavement. He looked so much like Dax it made my stomach twist—same stubborn jawline, same spark in his eyes when he wanted something.   “Faster, faster!” Jack’s voice shot through the crowd as if the carousel horse actually had a turbo button.   I laughed, holding onto his small frame as the horse bobbed up and down. “You’re already going fast, champ. Unless you want me to fall off.”   He turned, wide-eyed, dramatic as ever. “Then hold on tighter.”   God, how could I ever regret him? Everything I’d done came down to protecting this boy.
