The number flashed all around the white room when I came to myself. It was on the door. It was on the book the man in white standing over me carried. Loud beeps rang across the room, echoing from everywhere around me.
What is going on here?
Where am I?
And most of all… where is my son?
The beeps grew faster.
“Calm down, Miss Rivers. We’re only here to help,” the man in white said gently.
Hot bubbles rose in my chest. “Where am I? Where is Jack? You can’t take him from me. Please don’t take him from me.”
“Okay, ma’am. I don’t know who Jack is or where your son is, but you’re in a hospital. I’m Doctor Ramona.”
I took a slow look around the room. Hospital. That made sense.
“But… but… how did I get here?”
