Elena’s POV I wanted to disappear into the ground. Ken’s eyes caught me before I could slip away unnoticed. His grin stretched wide, the kind of grin that warned me trouble was coming. “No wonder,” he drawled, his gaze flicking from me to Dax, “you’re reluctant to leave the villa with such a beauty waiting inside.” Heat rushed to my cheeks, but I straightened and crossed my arms over my chest like a shield. “I’m not waiting for anyone. I’m his assistant. That’s it.” Ken’s smirk deepened. He leaned close as if he’d discovered the punchline of a private joke. “Assistant, huh?” His tone wrapped the word in disbelief, like it was code for something much bigger. His knowing eyes sent a chill through me, as if he could see straight into secrets I hadn’t even dared say aloud.
