Chapter 2

2317 Words
It was the scent of a young Male polar bear, still very small, posing little threat to an adult Male polar bear. If Audiss hadn't been injured, but had encountered this polar bear while hungry, he would have very likely killed it. But now he was injured and had enough food, so he wasn't interested in killing this young polar bear. Qiao Qixi, who had hidden back indoors, was very worried that Audiss would climb over through the gap and cause him trouble. Fortunately, the other party just stood quietly for a while and then left without much interest. The gap in that wall might have been a blind spot for the surveillance cameras, and the staff didn't notice it for a while, leaving Qiao Qixi with the hidden danger of being attacked by his neighbor. Damn, he couldn't even sleep like this. To get a good night's sleep, Qiao Qixi felt it was necessary to alert the staff to this gap. So, whenever he had nothing to do after eating, he would wander around there, trying to attract the staff's attention in this way. However, Qiao Qixi's actions were undoubtedly like repeatedly dancing on the edge of death, because every time he appeared near the gap, he would attract Audiss. That is to say, even Audiss was attracted, but the staff still didn't notice. Isn't that too negligent? Does Audiss have to climb over to his side, wander around, and bite him to death with his sharp fangs before the staff will notice the wall has collapsed? Imagining his own death, Qiao Qixi's fur stood on end with fear. He firmly believed that Audiss wasn't coming over for now only because his injuries hadn't healed and it wasn't suitable for him to climb the wall. Once he recovered in a couple of days, he would definitely come over and take him down. As the saying goes, 'strike first to gain the upper hand.' Qiao Qixi, who had eaten too much, felt that he should take advantage of Audiss's unrecovered state and go over to wander around first to attract the staff's attention. No matter how he thought about this plan, it seemed like a suicide mission. This morning, the sun was warm, and Qiao Qixi was once again peeking at Audiss from the wall. That big fellow had half his body exposed outside, dozing and sunbathing, seemingly in a deep sleep. Compared to the snow-white fur of Qiao Qixi, Audiss's fur wasn't as white; it had a slight yellowish tint. Qiao Qixi thought for a moment but still didn't dare to act rashly. Forget it, forget it, let's wait and see. Fortunately, after a few days, Audiss still had no interest in taking down Qiao Qixi; he didn't even bother to drive him away when Qiao Qixi was peeking from the wall. This is unscientific. Over time, even a layman like Qiao Qixi could see that Audiss's condition was not optimistic; it seemed to be more than just a physical problem. Indeed, he accidentally overheard staff members saying that Audiss seemed to be unaccustomed to life at the rescue station and was a bit emotionally negative. Animal psychological illnesses are not uncommon; let alone wild polar bears, even pet cats and dogs sometimes fall into passive resistance. If this continued, Audiss might really be sent back to the wild prematurely, which would be very dangerous. Qiao Qixi, holding a sea fish in his mouth, was lying on the wall, peeking at his neighbor, but his neighbor had no spirit; even when he noticed him, he just lay on the snow and barely lifted his eyelids. Goodness, is this a strategy? To lure himself over and then bite him to death in one go? Such a possibility cannot be ruled out. However, Qiao Qixi thought that polar bears probably didn't have that level of intelligence. Just as he was considering whether to drop the fish and leave, Audiss in the distance moved; he actually got up and slowly approached this way. Audiss's figure was like a small iceberg; although he was a bit thin now, it didn't affect his presence. Qiao Qixi was a little scared, but he could tell that although Audiss's gaze towards him was wary, it didn't have the glint of seeing prey. This indicated that Audiss didn't see him as prey. Qiao Qixi, who was outwardly calm but inwardly terrified, lay on the wall looking at the huge polar bear standing in front of him, not backing down. polar bears with keen senses can judge an opponent's emotions and true intentions, so he tried his best to rein in his aura, although he didn't have much of an aura to begin with. Audiss was as tall as the young polar bear lying on the wall; he stretched his neck and sniffed the small Male polar bear that appeared in his sight every day. Perhaps he was bewildered. After all, polar bear cubs he had encountered in the past would never dare to wander under his nose; that was an act of seeking death. Qiao Qixi held the fish motionless, letting the other party's round and deep gaze scrutinize him. By the way, polar bears' eyes are very beautiful. Big and round. After sniffing this Little Polar Bear for a moment, Audiss withdrew his curiosity and licked his lips. His slow movements and the lack of light in his eyes clearly conveyed his unhappiness to Qiao Qixi. Qiao Qixi felt a little pained. How should he put it? A four-year-old adult polar bear shouldn't have such an expression. He hoped this polar bear would recover well at the rescue station and then return to the wild to continue his life. The injured Audiss rarely moved around outdoors; after being lured out by Qiao Qixi for a walk, he returned to his original spot to lie down and continue sunbathing and dozing. His entire being was filled with resistance to his current life. The still-alive sea fish wiggled its tail in Qiao Qixi's mouth. As if he had made a decision, Qiao Qixi pushed up with his two hind legs, and suddenly with a crash, the crumbling wall beneath him collapsed. Holy cow! Well, after all, no matter how young he was, he was still a polar bear, weighing several hundred pounds. The considerable commotion here caused Audiss to raise his head again. Lazily, he quietly watched the scene of the accident. Qiao Qixi shook his thick fur, holding the sea fish in his mouth, and advanced towards Audiss. At this moment, his figure finally appeared on the surveillance video. The staff member who spotted him rubbed his eyes, thinking he had seen wrong. "Oh my goodness, oh, no way, Alexander is in Audiss's enclosure!" He quickly informed his colleague, "Quick, think of a way, we can't let them fight." "What? How did he get over there?" The colleague who came to look at the monitor was very surprised and said, "What is our little angel Alexander doing? Oh my, he's holding a fish in his mouth!" That's right. Those around him found it incredible: "Is he perhaps trying to show goodwill to Audiss?" Such a thing happening with a polar bear was very surprising, but it didn't seem entirely impossible. "Wait, let's observe Audiss's reaction first. If he doesn't attack Alexander, perhaps it will be beneficial for his emotional stability," a staff member said with a serious expression, stating his thoughts. But they also knew this was extremely dangerous. If Audiss attacked Alexander, the outcome would be very bad. As Qiao Qixi got closer and closer to Audiss, the staff members watching the screen started breathing rapidly, very nervous. "Wait a little longer, maybe there will be a different outcome." Qiao Qixi was also quite nervous, but humans couldn't see his nervousness with the naked eye; his thick fur only allowed him to make an endearing expression. People only saw him slowly walk up to Audiss and friendly place the sea fish in front of him. A Little Polar Bear making such a gesture was truly unbelievable. Did Alexander mistake Audiss for his mother? This seemed to be the only explanation. The dispirited Audiss was perhaps as confused as humans. It was clear that this was the first time he had been fed by a young polar bear. In their genes, only mothers feed their young, and during mating, some Male polar bears will yield food to females. Normally, Audiss would, of course, be very enthusiastic about food, because surviving in the wild required him to constantly consume food to sustain his life. But here, his emotions had fallen into a slump, and he had more or less lost his enthusiasm for food. However, the appearance of a Little Polar Bear awakened his innate desire for survival; after all, besides the snow all around, this was the only familiar memory for Audiss: a fellow creature. The staff members saw on the monitor that Audiss lowered his head, picked up the sea fish, placed it between his two paws, rested a paw on it, and then tilted his head to bite into it. A round of applause erupted in the monitoring room, everyone letting out a sigh of relief. Qiao Qixi was very happy; this dejected polar bear had better eat more, as sufficient food intake was necessary for his injuries to heal. One sea fish wasn't even enough to get stuck in an adult polar bear's teeth; in just one minute, Audiss swallowed the sea fish Qiao Qixi had brought. He licked the blood on his paws, still wanting more, and a faint light seemed to appear in his eyes as he watched Qiao Qixi. Noticing that he seemed about to get up, Qiao Qixi cowardly retreated several steps. "Hey, what do you want, brother?" he thought. Later, he simply ran towards the collapsed gap, moving with a nimbleness uncharacteristic of a bear. Audiss watched the Little Polar Bear's retreating figure, not giving chase. After a while, he turned and walked to the corner where food was kept, eating all the fish in the feeding trough. This change, while delighting the staff, prompted them to discuss whether or not to rebuild the collapsed gap. After much deliberation, they decided that keeping the gap might be beneficial for Audiss and Alexander; they might become companions who could comfort each other. At this point, Qiao Qixi's plan was declared a failure. His original intention was to go over and wander around to attract the staff's attention, and then have the staff block the gap for him. As a result of his actions, not only did the gap become larger, but he was also put to good use, becoming a tool bear. Become Audiss's companion? Are humans serious? There's no such record in polar bear history; how could two adult Male polar bears with no blood relation possibly become companions? However, no matter how much Qiao Qixi fumed, his enclosure and Audiss's enclosure remained connected, an unchangeable fact. He stayed in his small den for two days, and only gradually relaxed when he realized that his bear brother next door didn't seem to care about him. Worry and curiosity eventually overcame fear. Two days later, Qiao Qixi once again went to the gap with a fish in his mouth and unexpectedly encountered Audiss, who was wandering nearby. The moment their eyes met, the atmosphere was somewhat solidified and awkward. Making eye contact with a polar bear is not a wise choice; it can be perceived as a challenge, and if the other party suddenly charges, it's over. Fortunately, Audiss didn't suddenly charge; he approached the young polar bear very slowly, with a relatively friendly attitude. Indeed, through several brief encounters, they had become very familiar with each other's scents. Given Qiao Qixi's age and fighting ability, Audiss probably didn't even consider him a threat. Glancing at the sea fish brought by the Little Polar Bear, the huge polar bear nonchalantly nudged the fish with his paw, seemingly with no intention of eating it at the moment. His morning rations had just been delivered, so maybe he had just eaten his fill, Qiao Qixi thought. He delivered the fish and was about to leave, but when he turned around, he found that Audiss was actually following him, still holding the sea fish he had brought in his mouth. For a moment, Qiao Qixi's emotions were in turmoil, with various bloody scenes flashing through his mind. However, he quickly realized he was overthinking it; Audiss seemed to be only interested in his enclosure. But unfortunately, this area was also a cramped space, incomparable to the vast world outside. Audiss might have been a little disappointed, but he was no longer as listless as before. He found a sunny spot and began to eat the fish. This state was already much better than before. Qiao Qixi couldn't believe that his territory had been so brazenly occupied by the other party. By the way, that spot was also one of his favorite places to nap. Catching sight of a white figure slowly approaching him and cautiously lying down nearby, Audiss merely licked his mouth nonchalantly. Clearly, he didn't take this young polar bear seriously. The staff, watching their not-too-distant figures on the monitor, felt it was a miracle. Very incredible. Audiss visited Alexander's enclosure; he seemed to have accepted Alexander's presence, and Alexander seemed to have taken him for his mother, constantly showing goodwill. People were somewhat excited by this scene and began to consider whether they should be released together in the upcoming release plan. This was a question worth considering. If Qiao Qixi knew their thoughts, he would surely faint. He had said it a hundred times. polar bears are solitary animals, let alone two Male polar bears; even if a comet hit Earth, they couldn't possibly become companions.
