AFTER WE FINISH MORNING Prayer, Father Stratton and I walk down into the basement. It’s a beehive of activity, with the hum of voices and the clatter of pans coming from the kitchen. Visitors are already beginning to arrive, checking in at the registration table staffed by Vivian Applegate, who is talking to Clark. “I want to introduce you,” I say to Father Stratton, and we walk over to them. “Hello, my Protestant brother,” I say with a grin. “Good morning, Tom,” Clark says as we shake hands.
