Joey knew it was Scarlett's grandmother. She wasn't supposed to be impressed with Mavis.
But somehow, seeing Mavis cry made her feel bad.
She took Mavis' arm and gently said, "Mrs. Sanchez, I'm Joey."
Mavis wiped her eyes with some disappointment when she heard this.
She took Joey's hand and choked, "Why aren't you my daughter? Plum looks exactly like you when she plays this song. You and she..."
She was barely finished when Scarlett cut her off.
Scarlett put her arm around Mavis' shoulder and looked sad. "Grandma, you miss my mom? I miss her too. Shall I take you to see her tomorrow?"
Seeing the tears on Scarlett's face, Mavis didn't finish the sentence after all.
She didn't know why she saw her daughter in Joey.
Joey looked and moved just like Plum.
