Chapter four

William’s estate. Seated in tastefully furnished living room was an older man in his late fifties, legs crossed while going through several stack of documents on the table. Standing behind him was a strict-looking man in a black suit, most probably his personal bodyguard. Suddenly a man in a brown suit walked in and bowed to the man. “Sir, the daughter of the Turners is here,” “Oh?” the elderly man put down the document in his hands. “Quick, take these away and let her come inside,” he ordered the two men in the room. Quickly the two men helped to carry all the stacks of papers and never returned. Not long after, the bubbly Tina Turner came in, wearing a tomboy outfit. If one didn’t know, he’d mistake her for a pretty boy. How many girls heart this naughty girl must have stolen and broken because of her dressing! Well, what could he do? He could only blame her parents and five brothers for pampering her too much. Yes, they were to blame or else how would this beautiful girl decide to ruin women’s hearts like this in the name of fashion. Still, he cherished her just like his own daughter. She was his daughter’s bestfriend and her bubbly personality always made him in a good mood. “Good daughter, you finally know to visit uncle,” “I’m so sorry. I promise, no week will pass without me visiting uncle, okay? I couldn’t visit cause I had a gaming tournament to attend.” “Oh,” the older man nodded in understanding. Tina took her seat on a chair closest to the old man, a cheerful smile still present on her mouth. “So did you win?” Tina nodded vigorously, “Yes, I did. I crushed the opponent easily like I was shooting fish in a barrel,” “That’s great, dear,” Tina rose and showed the man the video of her holding the trophy with fans cheering and dramatic music playing in the background. “Good job, dear,” he patted Tina’s head and she giggled, “Thank you, uncle,” She went back to her seat and donned a serious look. This drew the older man’s attention. It was rare to see this happy-go-lucky young woman look this grave. “Is anything the matter?” “I brought you a present,”Tina replied. “That’s a good thing. Why the grave look then?” “It’s because I don’t know if you’ll accept this gift or not.” She said nervously. “Oh, dear. Even if it’s a candy you brought, this old man will gladly accept it. What are you worried for?” “So you promise not to get mad?” “Why would I be mad at you?” the man gave her an incredible look and then she smiled. “Alright, remember your promise, uncle,” she then clapped twice. At that, a figure entered the living room wearing a brown gown that stopped at her ankles. The only jewelry on her body was a diamond necklace and diamond earrings worth billions. Her hair was intricately done and she wore light make-up. She smelled of roses and gave off irresistible charm. Upon seeing who it was, the older man shot up from his seat, “Kimberly?” “Dad, I’m back!” Kimberly said with teary eyes, her hands trembling. When she left home that day, she vowed not to come back if the marriage turned out well for her. But he had told her that things won’t turn out well as the guy didn’t look trusted. But she ignored his words back then and it led to her wasting three years of her life. She really regretted not listening to her father back then. She walked slowly to him and fell to her knees, “Dad, I’m sorry. You were right, I should have listened to you back then,” she said emotionally. Her father stared at her and then at the nervous Tina, “This is the present?” The latter nodded, “You promised you won’t be mad, uncle. Please keep your promise,” “You still have the cheek to mention that?!” the man reprimanded and then turned to his only daughter with a sigh. He helped her to her feet and wiped the tears that had rolled down her cheeks, “Don’t cry, honey. Everyone makes mistakes, and I’m not perfect either. You’ve learned your lesson and that’s important.” He then hugged her. She hugged him back and burst into tears, “I’m so sorry, Daddy,” Her father patted her back in gentleness, “It’s okay, honey. I’ve forgiven you and hold nothing against you. You are the fruit of my loins, why should I stay mad at you forever? I’m sorry too for not calling to ask about your well-being all these years. I failed as a Dad in that regard,” Kimberly broke the hug, sniffing, “Thank you father. I really missed you,” she confessed. He used an hanky to wipe her tears and then stroked her hair, “I missed you too, my dear,” At this moment, Tina cleared her throat, “Well, since uncle likes my present, it’s time for me to leave,” Then before the father and daughter duo could say anything, she had already fled as if chased by aliens. The two sighed in sync and then sat on the couch together. “How have you been daughter?” “Well… it’s a long story,” she began to narrate what happened today and her father raged at the end of the story. “That measly Foster family! How dare they?” Kimberly held her father’s arm, “Calm down, Dad. Anger isn’t good for your health,” she soothed and a short while later, he calmed down. “So, what do you want to do now?” “I want to take over the load from your shoulders. All you have to do is to go on the vacations, you’ve always wanted, Dad,” “Who told you that I want to travel round the world?” “A secret,” she tittered and her father sighed. “You just came back. You need to rest. As for your ambition, you have to put in a lot of effort. I won’t let you be my successor just because you’re my baby girl, alright?” “I’ll apply to work as a cleaner there for starters,” Her father nodded, “That’s good. You spent three years outside. I want you to become the vice manager of that company within three years. I won’t make things easy for you just because we’re related. You must solve everything on your own and prove that you are capable. And make sure no one finds out you’re my daughter,” “Alright father,” Kimberly rose and gave him a light peck. “Good night,” with that she excitedly ascended the stairs and her personal maid in the past was excited to see her. Not long after she left, a young man entered, dressed in casual clothes. “Good evening, uncle,” he greeted smilingly. “Come over here. What did you get me?” the older man asked smilingly, signaling for the young man in his late twenties to come sit beside him. The latter obeyed and took out some packet of tea from the nylon he was holding. At that Kimberly’s Dad’s eyes shone, “Where did you get it?” “From Mr. June,” the younger man replied. “How did you do it, Casey? That stingy old bastard refused to let me have a sip of his tea last time and now you’ve got so many packets?!” “I saved his granddaughter today and he asked what to pay me in return for my help. I simply asked for this tea and he gave them to me at his granddaughter’s insistence.” Casey explained. “Wow. If I knew this way I would get tea, I should have kidnapped his descendants and asked for the tea as ransom.” The younger man’s mouth twitched. With his speech, one wouldn’t believe he was the richest man in southill city, Nelson Williams. A trillionaire whom every noble family in the country feared. “Uncle, I don’t think it’s right to do that.” “I’m not going to hurt them, okay? I just need the tea. Or are you going to be saving his descendants every week?” Kimberly’s dad questioned and Casey was at a loss on what to reply. “Forget it. Thank you for the present, my boy,” he patted the young man’s shoulder and the latter smiled. “Oh, one more thing. It’s a good news actually.” This piqued Casey’s interest. He felt this uncle of his was in a very happy mood today, not just because of the tea packets that he forced out of Mr. June’s hands today. He wondered what the good news could be. “Kimberly is back. My daughter is finally home,” Mr Williams disclosed. Casey was stunned for a few moments, “S-She’s back?!” he asked in disbelief. “Yes, my boy. Your cousin’s home. We’ll celebrate tomorrow. Declare a day off for all staff of the company. Any company that’s not happy with my decision is welcome to partner with my rivals, but of course, they should be ready to stay behind bars once all their dirty laundry is brought out in public.” “Yes, Uncle. Where is she?” “Oh, she’s retired for the night. You can see her tomorrow morning.” “Okay, Uncle. I’ll be retiring to my room too. Good night,” Casey rose from the seat and then ascended the stairs quickly. As he stepped into the spacious hallway, he started walking slowly. ‘So she’s back? How dare she come back? I won’t let her ruin my plans. She has to get out of the way. Only I deserve to be the successor, not some prodigal daughter who’ll still end up in the kitchen of another man. Worst case, I’ll just snuff out her life in secret,’ he thought with his fists clenched by his sides. With this resolution in mind, he quickened his steps and made for his room.
