**Chapter 4: The Anti-Bully Brigade Strikes Back** The morning sun cast a golden hue over Riverdale Park as Sofia raced down the familiar path. She felt a surge of adrenaline coursing through her veins. Today was the day the Anti-Bully Brigade would put their plan into action. She could almost envision it: the bullies retreating in defeat while she and her friends stood tall like superheroes, the mist of their victory hanging in the air. Sofia arrived at the park to find Emma and Lily already there, animatedly discussing their ideas. They stood near the large oak tree, their voices a mix of excitement and determination. “Okay, so here’s the plan,” Emma said, waving her hands as if orchestrating an imaginary symphony. “We need to create a distraction to draw the bullies away from Alex. While they’re busy, we can sneak in and—” “Maybe we can lure them with candy!” Lily interrupted, her eyes sparkling. “Everyone loves candy!” Sofia laughed. “That’s a great idea! But what if we made a trap instead? We could use the candy to bait them!” “A trap?” Emma’s eyebrows shot up. “Like a net or something? That sounds a bit extreme.” “Not a net, but maybe we can set up something funny, like a bucket of water above a door,” Sofia suggested, her mind racing with possibilities. “You know, classic prank style.” “Or we could pretend to have a huge soccer tournament!” Lily exclaimed, bouncing on her toes. “We could invite them to join and then surprise them when they realize it’s a trap!” Sofia nodded enthusiastically. “I like that! They’ll think they’re going to show off, and instead, we’ll catch them off guard.” Just then, Alex arrived, looking a little worn but curious about the girls’ spirited discussion. “Hey, what’s going on?” he asked, trying to suppress a smile. “We’re planning how to take down the bullies,” Sofia declared, puffing out her chest proudly. “You in?” Alex grinned, the warmth of friendship sweeping over him. “Absolutely! What do you need me to do?” “First, we need to gather supplies,” Emma said, pulling out a notepad from her backpack. “What do we need for our soccer tournament?” “Let’s see,” Sofia mused, her brow furrowing in concentration. “We’ll need a ball, cones for goals, and definitely some posters to make it look official.” “And don’t forget the candy for bait!” Lily chimed in, holding up a bag of gummy bears she had stashed in her pocket. “We’ll use these!” “Great! Let’s meet back here in an hour,” Sofia suggested, her excitement palpable. “Then we’ll set everything up.” --- As the group dispersed to gather supplies, the atmosphere buzzed with anticipation. Alex made his way to the corner store, a smile on his face as he thought about the absurdity of the plan. He couldn’t remember the last time he felt this lighthearted. With each step, he felt the weight of bullying lifting, if only slightly. Meanwhile, Sofia and her friends returned to the park, armed with supplies. They quickly set up their makeshift tournament area, complete with goals made of backpacks and cones stolen from the gym. They even created a large sign that read, **“Anti-Bully Soccer Tournament – All Welcome!”** decorated with colorful drawings. “This is going to be epic!” Emma said, adjusting the poster. “Just imagine the look on Tyler’s face when he realizes he’s been tricked,” Sofia giggled. “He’ll never see it coming!” As the sun rose higher in the sky, casting a warm glow over the park, they heard laughter and shouts approaching. Alex returned, carrying a soccer ball and an assortment of snacks. “I found some extra candy, just in case!” he announced, holding up a bag of chocolate bars. “Perfect!” Lily exclaimed, rubbing her hands together. “Now, we just need to wait for them to show up.” After a few minutes of nervous anticipation, the group spotted Tyler and his crew approaching the park, chatting and laughing loudly. Sofia’s heart raced, a mix of anxiety and exhilaration flooding through her. “Okay, everyone, remember the plan!” she whispered urgently, her eyes darting between her friends and the approaching bullies. “Act natural!” As Tyler and his friends came closer, they stopped, noticing the vibrant setup. “What’s this? A soccer tournament?” Tyler scoffed, crossing his arms. “Looks like a bunch of kids playing dress-up.” Sofia took a deep breath. “Actually, it’s an invitation for anyone to join. We need more players!” “Do you even have enough players?” one of Tyler’s friends mocked, looking at their small group. “Of course!” Emma chirped, grinning. “We have a whole team ready to crush the competition!” “Right. Like we’d join a bunch of losers,” Tyler replied, rolling his eyes. “Why not?” Alex said, stepping forward, a newfound confidence in his voice. “You might find it’s more fun than you think.” Tyler paused for a moment, taken aback by Alex’s bravado. “Why would we want to play with you?” “Because we’re awesome!” Lily exclaimed, jumping in to save the moment. “And we’ve got candy!” At the mention of candy, Tyler’s interest was piqued. “Candy? What kind?” he asked, leaning forward, a glimmer of curiosity in his eyes. Sofia couldn’t help but smile. “We have gummy bears and chocolate bars! Join us for a game, and you can have some afterward!” Tyler glanced back at his friends, who were now whispering among themselves. “I don’t know…” he said hesitantly, clearly weighing the pros and cons of this unexpected offer. “Come on, Tyler! What do you have to lose?” Alex prodded, keeping his tone light but assertive. “You can’t say no to free candy.” After a brief moment of deliberation, Tyler finally relented. “Fine! One game. But if we win, you have to give us all the candy!” “Deal!” Sofia said, extending her hand. Tyler shook it, a smirk playing on his lips. “Prepare to lose, losers!” As they divided into teams, Sofia couldn’t help but feel a rush of adrenaline. The stage was set, and the moment had arrived for the Anti-Bully Brigade to take charge. The game began, and laughter erupted as they all kicked the ball around. Tyler and his crew quickly realized that playing soccer was much more fun than taunting the other kids. The atmosphere transformed, and for a brief moment, the lines that divided them blurred. Alex felt the heaviness in his chest lift with every kick of the ball. “Hey, not so hard!” Emma squealed as Tyler sent the ball flying past her. “Sorry! Just trying to show you how it’s done!” Tyler shot back, a hint of camaraderie surfacing. The game continued, and the energy surged. They laughed, cheered, and even made some playful jabs at one another. But just as the game seemed to be going well, something unexpected happened. In a moment of miscalculation, Tyler tripped over his own feet, losing his balance and colliding into Alex, sending them both tumbling to the ground. The laughter from earlier faded into an awkward silence as they both lay there, tangled and confused. “Are you okay?” Alex asked, checking to see if Tyler was hurt. Tyler pushed himself up, a look of embarrassment flashing across his face. “Yeah, I’m fine. Just… had a little too much candy,” he mumbled, the earlier bravado slipping. “You sure? Because it looked like you were trying to tackle me,” Alex joked, offering a hand to help Tyler up. The unexpected gesture caught Tyler off guard. He accepted Alex’s hand, and for a brief moment, they locked eyes, a silent acknowledgment passing between them. The bullies were no longer just enemies; they were kids caught up in the whirlwind of growing up. “Maybe you’re not so bad, Alex,” Tyler admitted, a hesitant smile creeping onto his face. “Thanks, I guess. You’re not as awful as I thought either,” Alex replied, the tension easing as the boys began to laugh together. Suddenly, the cheerful atmosphere shifted when they heard footsteps approaching rapidly. Sofia turned to see their mothers striding toward them, concern written all over their faces. “Alex! Sofia!” Lila called out, her voice laced with urgency. “We heard there was trouble, and we came to check on you!” Claire, Alex’s mom, followed close behind. “Is everything okay?” Sofia’s heart raced as she saw the stern expressions on their mothers’ faces. “Everything’s fine, Mom! We were just playing soccer!” she exclaimed, trying to maintain a cheerful tone despite the looming worry. “Playing soccer, huh?” Lila raised an eyebrow, glancing at the group of kids. “And who are all these friends?” “Just some new friends from school!” Sofia said quickly, hoping to ease any suspicions. “Is that so?” Claire asked, crossing her arms as she surveyed the scene, noticing Tyler and his friends, who were now all sheepishly standing off to the side. “What’s going on here?” Lila pressed, looking from her daughter to Alex and then to Tyler. “Uh, we were just having a little tournament,” Alex said, a nervous smile plastered on his face. “You know, just some fun.” The mothers exchanged glances, clearly unconvinced. “We heard some reports of bullying,” Claire said carefully, her tone turning serious. “
