13: Request

I could see Derek's face relaxed like he knew I couldn’t ask anything outrageous. How wrong he was. I pretended to think for some time, making him impatient. From the corner of my eyes, I caught Derek shifting on his feet. I laughed inwardly. So he wasn’t used to being held up. How did it feel for him when he held me up almost every time we had a date? My eyes focused back on him, “what I want is really simple. But I doubt you would make it happen” I twisted my fingers together, giving him puppy eyes from under my lashes to give the impression that I was still gullible and easy to control. “I could make anything happen. For you, for us,” he stretched out his hand walking towards me. I took a step back. He got the message and stopped in his tracks with his eyebrows raised. “Woo me again as you would to the love of your life,” a smile began to split his face into two but I held up a hand. “And while you're at it, I want nobody else in your life.” His smile froze and a frown came over his face. “What about Trina? You know I can’t break up with her.” “I never asked you to break up with her,” I corrected. He appeared more confused than before. “Then what are you suggesting?” He asked and I shrugged. “I think you’re getting pretty late for your practice,” I reminded him, unwilling to continue the conversation with him. He looked at me for some time studying me, “Fine. I’ll do as you’ve asked. But only on one condition.” I raised my brow at him. “You don’t entertain other guys while I’m being a man and wooing you. You’re only permitted to see me.” I burst out laughing as I couldn’t contain the humor. Who does he think he was really? “I will entertain any and every guy I want. I’m not your girlfriend remember? But if you want me to take you seriously, you better steer clear of other girls.” I paused, “only if you want me to think you’re trying to play me for the second time.” He opened his mouth but his phone began ringing. He looked up the caller ID. And back to me. “We’ll continue this conversation some other time. Or we could meet up to talk about it.” “I’m a busy person,” I quickly interjected. His brows furrowed. From what he knew about me, I was all about school and home. Sensing his confusion, I pointed towards my body, “working out and taking care of myself because that’s what got me humiliated in the past.” His face became passive like he understood my words directly hinting at him. He opened his mouth once more to talk but I beat him to it, “I bet you wouldn’t want to date a fat and ugly girl.” He moved towards me, “Look summer, I don’t care if you’re fat, skinny, tall, or short. What I want is inside you and not on the outside. I realized quite late what a rare gem you are.” He was about a foot away from me and I could smell his cologne. Derek is one of the few people in the pack who uses cologne. His words almost made me gag outward. But I controlled my facial expression at the last minute. He closed the space between us, his face full of fake regret. Biting my lips to give him the impression that I was faltering, he decided to hold my hand. “Come on Summer, I love you. Let’s skip this wooing phase and…” he was cut short by the ringing of his phone. He let go of my hand, backing away, “We’ll talk later yeah?” I nodded my head at him. But he stopped, he pointed towards his house, “I could drop you off at home if you don’t mind?” Shaking my hands at him with a dead-ass smile, I declined and he half ran away while looking at his phone. I watched him leave as memories of our earlier days came rushing back. By the time I came to my senses, Derek was already far gone. And the sound of a car reached my ears. Turning around, I met a black car speeding my way. From the windscreen, I found it to be Kane. His face was gloomy as always. He sped off without glancing at me and I scoffed. We were clearly going the same way. Not like I would have accepted if he offered to drop me off. But it was common courtesy to offer a ride. I arrived at his house quite late, my mind filled with the events of the day. It was the most I’ve had male attention in a day. In the sitting room, I met Raphael watching TV all dressed up. His face split up into a smile when he saw me. And Kane was dressed rather nicely too as he came out from the hallway. Our eyes met for a split second before he looked at Raphael, “let’s go,” he said moving towards the door. But Rapheal was looking at me. “Ooou you look good Summer. Isn’t that right Kane?” He teased me and I blushed shyly. He said it like he meant and that was enough to make me feel beautiful. I stole a glance at Kane who had stopped walking and was turning towards Rapheal and me. His eyes met mine for the second time and it didn’t just stop there. It roamed my head to my toes slowly, deliberately without an ounce of emotion on his face. I felt like I was being burned alive from the intensity of his gaze. It made heat pool in my lower belly. His eyes came up to mine again and towards Rapheal, “Hmm.” Rapheal laughed happily as he walked towards me and looped an arm into mine, “I bet you’re dressed this way because of a date,” he wiggled his eyebrows at me, “tell me, who’s the lucky man?” “We don’t have time for chit chat Raph. Let’s get going,” Kane’s voice sounded cold and stern as he walked outside. “Why don’t we let Summer come with us? She’s the perfect girl for this.” Raphael said excitedly like an idea just occurred to him. I held my breath waiting for Kane’s response. Although I had no idea where we were going.
