06: Boy trouble

I pulled Xena back. The last thing I wanted to do was drag Xena into all of my mess. This was my fight. Not hers. I appreciated that she always took up for me and was ready to fight if need be. However, not just this time. Pulling her by the sleeve of her dress, I spoke to her, “It’s okay Zee. Let it go. She didn’t hurt me.” Xena acted like she didn’t hear a word I said, and I continued her glaring contest with Trina. Xena’s wolf was dominant because it was a gamma and the others were just normal wolves except one of Trina's friends who had some gamma blood in them. And Xena’s wolf was getting agitated because he was being challenged. If anything were to occur here, I would be the one punished. Father could always cover up for Trina. And the alpha wouldn’t punish Xena because she’s the gamma daughter. Xena must have realized that because, at long last, she backed down. “But this is far from over, b***h,” she sneered, passing by Trina and purposely hitting her shoulders with hers. Out of the bathroom, I let my head hang low in shame as I followed Xena out of the party. I knew she wouldn’t blame me. But we’ll, I was so ashamed of myself. Xena didn’t say a word for a long time, even after we got in her car. She was pissed. And whenever she is, it takes a long time for her to calm down Without warning, she banged the steering wheel,” I wish I could give that girl a proper beating so she’ll know her place,” she hissed and I flinched. Then swiftly, she turned to look at me. I couldn’t hold her gaze. Then her eyes softened when she realized what was going on with me. “Stop feeling sorry for yourself, you did great today.” “No, I didn’t,” I said softly, totally embarrassed. She sighed and rested a hand on my shoulder,” Yes, you did. You showed that scumbag that he could never have you, not even in his dreams. And as for Trina, you finally spoke back at her. That’s a first,” she smiled and chuckled. I looked at her and realized I actually did. It was an achievement for me. Something I didn’t even realize. I smiled back and Trina started the car, letting me know that I didn't need to return to Kane’s house because it was the weekend. And driving back, we had a great time, singing along to our favorite song, “The Greatest by Sia” while also having a bottle of whisky. “So…” Trina said with a huge smile on her face immediately, we got to her room. I knew that smile. And nothing good comes out of it. “So what?” I plumped down on the bed, so tired after the day's events. Trina, bounced on the bed next to me, “Aide.” I rolled my eyes with a smile. “It’s not what you’re thinking. We’re just friends. “Says the girl who could make Aide blush like a little boy.” I opened my mouth to protest and just then, a text message came from Aide. 'Dinner tomorrow? It’s fine if you don’t want to' the message read and I smiled. Aide was such a sweet boy. Xena yanked the phone from my hand. And squealed like a little girl when she read the contents of the message. “Speak of the devil,” she laughed and began tickling me. I laughed, turning away from her, but she held me and stopped. “Say yes. He likes you and I know he would treat you better than the last,” she rolled her eyes, remembering Derek. “I don’t know, Aide is just a friend. We’ve always been mutual friends. And I seriously can’t think of him more than that.” Xena rolled her eyes and hit me with a pillow, ”Well then try. That’s why the word exists,” she stood up and got off her dress, leaving her in just her panties. “I can’t believe I didn’t say goodbye to Stan properly because of Trina, the dirtbag,” She sighed. ” I need to give him a call right now.” I thought about what Xena said. And I just couldn’t try. I mean Aide is a super kind and nice boy. But he didn’t give me butterflies. Picking up my phone to decline his request, I found out Xena had typed an ‘Okay, sure’ to him. And I gasped. When had she done that? “Why did you say yes?!” I screamed in horror. I was about to send a message explaining to Aide that it was a mistake when my phone began to ring. Xena looked at the caller as she got into bed beside me. She knew I didn't receive calls. So this came as a surprise to both of us. She gave me a questioning look and I shrugged my shoulders, letting her know I had no idea who it was either. Picking up the phone and placing it on speaker, the voice I never expected to hear flitted through the speaker. “Be back in ten minutes or say goodbye to your job,” With that. the call ended. The room was silent for a full minute before Xena decided to break it. “Wow, did Kane just call to threaten you?” “Yup,” I said still in shock. Because how did he get my number? I don't recall giving it to him. “You know, now that I think about it, I got a mysterious letter informing me to check up on you in the bathroom. Do you think it was Aide?” I looked away from my phone to Xena in shock. I hadn’t thought about how Xena knew I was in trouble. Maybe because I had been so shaken from the incident with Trina. I laughed nervously. It could never be Aide. He had no reason to protect me. He likes me, yes. However, I don’t think he would have thought that far. Besides, it would have been for him to directly tell Xena about it rather than sending her a note. There was only one person I knew who could do something as mysterious as that. The person's hot gaze almost turned me into hot cheese while at the party; Kane. Well, I doubted they had a reason to do that. I was just his maid. “What are you waiting for?” Trina asked in surprise. “Stand up and go to your grumpy boss. I don’t want him banging at my door at 2 am because he’s coming to get you.” I looked at Xena incredulously, “why would he do that?!” She shrugged as she entered under the cover and began texting someone on her phone “Well, because he’s Kane. He can literally do anything,” she went back into typing like she didn’t just scare me with that sentence. I sighed as I stood up from bed, giving Xena a goodbye hug and sad that I had to leave her and spend the night alone. I knew I’d mull over excessively what happened tonight. And I honestly didn’t want to remember any of it. Changing into my wolf form, I ran to Kane’s house. Getting there, I was bone tired. The distance was huge. I didn’t find a cab so I opted for the last option. I turned back into human form and went into the house. Thankfully, all the lights were out meaning Kane was either asleep or doing goddess k ones what. And Mrs Gertrude was asleep too, with the other maids. Going into the kitchen to get a glass of water to quench my thirst, as I could walk in the darkness with my eyes closed because I was already so used to the kitchen. I let the cold water soothe my tongue. “Where have you been?” Kane’s voice startled me so much that I dropped the cup on the floor. It shattered, making the only sound in the quiet dark kitchen.
