The finish line of the Midnight Circuit was a blur of smoke, burning rubber, and flashing neon lights.
My supercharged Demon crossed the line three full car lengths ahead of Archer’s smoking Mustang, the roaring thunder of the engine echoing off the concrete walls of the underground arena.
I slammed on the brakes, turning the wheel hard to swing the car around in a sharp, controlled 180-degree drift. The front bumper stopped less than an inch from the staging line, right in front of the stunned Northern Council elders.
Silence hung over the crowded circuit for three long seconds.
The bookies, the rival syndicate members, and the pit crews were frozen in complete disbelief. A nineteen-year-old girl—the outcast everyone thought was dead or broken—had just humiliated the star athlete and heir of the West family on his home turf.
I kicked the driver’s side door open and stepped out into the damp night air. I unzipped my racing jacket slightly, taking a deep breath as I pulled off my helmet. My dark hair tumbled over my shoulders, damp with sweat, my skin flushed and alive with leftover adrenaline.
Archer shoved his crumpled car door open, stumbling onto the asphalt. His face was red, his breath reeking of desperation and alcohol as he glared at me.
"She cheated!" Archer screamed, pointing a trembling, manicured finger at my car. "Her car is modified beyond syndicate regulations! The win doesn't count!"
"Shut your mouth, West," a voice cold enough to freeze blood boomed across the arena.
The crowd parted instantly as Kai stepped forward. He didn't look at Archer. His eyes were locked entirely onto me, glowing with a dark, golden pride that made my core throb with a sudden wave of heat.
"The race was monitored by neutral syndicate telemetry," Kai declared, stopping beside me. He didn't hesitate—his broad arm wrapped firmly around my waist, pulling me flush against his hard side in front of every power player in the city. "Sienna won clean. The West family’s shipping routes, your territory rights, and your seat on the board are now forfeited to the King Empire."
Elder Vance stepped forward, his face pale as paper. "This is unprecedented... a woman cannot hold the bloodline seat of the Northern Council—"
"She isn't just a woman," Kai interrupted, his grip on my hip tightening possessively as he looked down at Elder Vance with lethal disdain. "She is Arthur Vance’s sole legal heir. And as of tonight, her bloodline is backed by the full military force of the King Syndicate."
Kai reached into his coat pocket, pulling out a heavy, leather-bound document stamped with the crest of the Northern Pack. He tossed it onto the hood of Archer’s wrecked car.
"Sign it, Vance," Kai commanded softly, his voice dropping into a terrifying register. "Surrender your Council authority to Sienna, or my men will clear this dock with live ammunition in thirty seconds."
Marcus and twenty heavily armed enforcers stepped into the light, racking the slides of their submachine guns in unison. The click-clack of weapons echoed through the silent docks.
Elder Vance’s hand trembled as he picked up the pen. With a bitter curse, he scribbled his signature onto the surrender contract, relinquishing ten years of stolen power back to my family line.
Archer watched his family empire vanish in a single stroke of a pen. "You ruined me!" he screamed, lunging toward me in a fit of rage. "You little—"
Before Archer could even step close, Kai moved with lightning speed.
His gloved hand shot out, grabbing Archer by the throat mid-stride. Kai lifted the quarterback off the asphalt with one arm, slamming him violently into the side of the metal barrier. Archer gasped for air, his feet dangling uselessly off the ground.
"You were warned, West," Kai whispered darkly, leaning into Archer’s ear so only he could hear. "Touch her, speak her name, or step foot in Bel-Air again... and I won't just ruin your family. I will bury you alive."
Kai dropped Archer onto the cold ground like a sack of trash. Archer coughed violently, clutching his throat, before his men dragged him away into the shadows, disgraced and broken.
The Northern Council elders bowed their heads in silent surrender, backing away into the darkness.
The arena erupted into hushed murmurs as the crowd realized a new power dynamic had just been forged. I stood beside Kai, my chest rising and falling heavily as I looked at the signed contract resting on the hood of the car. The Northern Territory—my father’s legacy—was finally back in my hands.
Kai turned his body completely toward me. He didn't care about the crowd, the enforcers, or the money lying on the table. He reached out, his broad hand gently cupping the side of my face, his thumb wiping a smudge of engine grease off my cheekbone.
"You took your kingdom back, Sienna," Kai murmured, his voice low, velvet, and dripping with raw intensity.
"We took it back," I corrected softly, looking up into his golden eyes, my hand reaching up to rest over his warm wrist.
A slow, possessive smirk touched Kai’s lips. Without a word of warning, he bent down, hooking his arm beneath my knees, and scooped me up into his arms in one effortless motion.
"Kai! Put me down, people are watching!" I gasped, clutching his broad shoulders as my face flushed dark red.
"Let them watch," Kai growled darkly, carrying me toward the passenger side of his SUV while Marcus held the door open. "You made me wait through twenty miles of high-speed chaos, little sister. Now I'm taking you home."
He slid me onto the leather passenger seat, but before closing the door, he leaned in close. His lips brushed against the crescent birthmark on my collarbone, sending that familiar, electrifying spark shooting straight down to my toes.
"And tonight," Kai whispered into my ear, his hot breath making me shiver, "no one gets between us."
Meanwhile, back at the King Estate...
In the darkened study of the west wing, Victoria King stood near the window, holding a glass of red wine. Her face was twisted in pure venom as she listened to the speakerphone on her desk.
"It's over, Victoria," Elder Vance’s frantic voice rasped through the speaker. "The girl won the race. Kai forced us to sign over the Northern Territory rights. My men are pulling out."
Victoria slammed her wine glass down onto the mahogany desk, shattering the crystal. Red wine spilled across the documents like blood.
"Incompetent fools!" Victoria hissed, her eyes burning with pure malice. She ended the call and picked up a second, encrypted disposable phone, dialing a hidden number.
"Is the package ready?" Victoria asked cold, quiet tone.
"It's ready, Mrs. King," a deep, distorted voice replied from the other end. "The poison is odorless, colorless, and untraceable. One drop in Don Kai's drink tonight, and his heart will fail within two hours. It will look like a sudden cardiac arrest from adrenaline overload."
Victoria smiled—a cold, sickening expression in the dark room.
"Do it," Victoria commanded softly. "If Kai wants to give my empire to that bastard girl... then he can die right beside her."
