CHAPTER 5: NEW BEGINNING :

Ciara’s POV: Living in the moonlight pack was even better than I ever imagined. It felt refreshing to stay away from the place that caused me so much pain and anxiety, even if it used to be home. I used to believe that home is a person and Liam was my home, but coming here made me realize that home is not only a person. Home is where the heart is. It can be a person, place, or thing, anything that comforts you. So this is my home. With support and help from my new family, I was able to get a nursing job in the pack clinic where my cousin worked as a nurse. My cousin and I had similar interests in a nursing, so our mothers encouraged us and even enrolled us into the same school. Mia would call me every now and then to update me on what’s happening over there and I would tell her about my life and how well I was settling in. I heard from her about Liam and Kaitlyn’s wedding. It reminded me of the pain I was trying hard to let go. I still don’t know what happened that night. It messes with my head whenever I try to push too hard so I tried to forget it instead. I drifted back to reality when my cousin walked into my office. “Hey missy,” Kiara greeted. “What are you doing here at this time of the day?” I asked right away. I wasn’t expecting her this early because she’d usually come to get me after work and we would go home together . “Pack up, we’re going shopping” you’re probably wondering why we were going shopping? Well, my dear cousin thought that it was a good idea to force me to attend her friend’s birthday party. “Urghhh… you wouldn’t take no, would you?” I asked while massaging my head to ease the tension from stress. “You know damn well” she rolled her eyes. Eyeroll is something we do a lot when we’re together. I did not know this friend of hers and she wouldn’t even tell me if it’s a man or woman, she wouldn’t take no for an answer. I know, my cousin is troublesome. That was how we ended up driving into town to find the perfect dresses for this event. I don’t know why it’s a big deal to get new dresses when we could just wear something from our closets. Well, we got to the mall at the city center and the moment we walked into the dress store, every single hesitation I had flew out of the window and I walked around, trying to find the perfect dresses for my cousin and I. After picking out all the dresses that caught our attention, we went to the dressing room to change and after a whole hour of twirling and turning in front of the huge mirrors in the dressing room, Kiara settled for a purple dress that made her amber skin pop. It had a sweetheart neckline, an open back, it snatched her tiny waist and ruffled down to her mid thigh, while I opted for a simple black body corn dress that hugged my figures like a second skin. We went to the cash register and paid before heading home. I sighed in exhaustion when we got home and I freshened up and went straight to bed after dinner. The party was the next day so I had to get a good rest. After breakfast the next morning, Kiara drove us to work in full speed because we were running late after all the bickering at breakfast. “Don’t forget to round up at 3pm” I rolled my eyes because she had mentioned that more than three times that morning. “Yes ma’am” I saluted her in sheer mockery and we both laughed and I walked out of the elevator when we got to my office floor. At exactly 3pm, I heard her honk downstairs and I peeked through my office window to see her waving up at me. “Crazy girl” I said to myself with a smile on my face. I met her downstairs and we set off to town. This time, to have a massage, pedicure, manicure and have our makeup done before the party. When we got back to the pack, we were running late so we hurriedly had our bath and changed into our outfits. We met in the hallway and Kiara looked absolutely gorgeous with her perfect makeup and dress that she paired with a black red bottom heels which are overpriced and black purse. “You look so good sis” she said with a wide grin. “ says the one who looks like the celebrant” I smiled back. We chatted through the short drive to the elegant restaurant in the middle of the pack. As soon as we got in, I returned to my shell. It was the first time I was attending a party after my bachelorette party three months ago and it made me uncomfortable because of the memories from that party. “Let loose sis, they don’t bite” Kiara said while gesturing to her friends. I guess she noticed my reaction. “Hey guys, meet my cousin, Ciara” she introduced me to her friends. “Hi, I’m John,” said a cute guy who looked at me with a shy smile. His blonde hair complimented his blue eyes which almost looked like mine. “Hey cutie, we meet again” Jazmine said and stood up to give me a hug. I knew Jazmine because she was Kiara’s best friend and we had met a couple times since I moved here. We all turned to the man beside Jazmine.. He looked like a Greek god with his dominating height, almost black hair and sharp jawline. He was wearing a sleek black suit that accentuated his appearance and made him the center of attention. When I looked into his hazel eyes, I couldn't look away and I felt my heart beating faster at the intensity of his gaze. I only returned to my senses when Jazmine nudged him and he cleared his throat before speaking in a deep voice, “you’re welcome to our park, Ciara.”
