MARS-SUN L1—SOLETTABraxton sat at the controls of Phoenix Starship Neil Armstrong, one of several Double-MBH craft Phoenix had produced following Sally’s and Brad’s successful reverse engineering of the Asterian spacecraft. Unlike the original Asterian model that was capable of virtually instantaneous acceleration to near lightspeed but remained subluminal, the Double-MBH craft retained that maneuverability but could also reach superluminal speeds with its MERT Drive. Double-MBH referred to MMBH that in turn referred to MERT-MBH. After the Ad Astra, the next three such Phoenix starships were named Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Pete Conrad after the three guys who visited the moon on the first landing.
