“Aria, where are you honey? It’s raining cats and dogs. You need to get home before it gets worse.” Her dad was right. She promised to be home early because she knew the weather was going to be difficult to drive through.
She fumbled for her keys in her bag and tried to open her door. Why does her boss keep her so late? As she started her car she looked around at the darkness of the night. No one was in sight. All the vehicles that occupied the roadsides during the day were nowhere to be seen now. That’s no surprise either. Who would want to be out in this weather? Most persons were already home probably enjoy a hot cup of tea.
Aria knew it was a bad idea to drive this late. She couldn’t see anything past her bonnet with the mist created by the rain. She was trying to be so careful that she almost missed the shadow up head. “Why would someone be walking the road so late at night with this weather?”She wondered. Should she stop to offer assistance? What if it was a hijacker or serial killer? She was known for her over thinking but this was different. These things are actually possible. She looked at her phone and realized there was no cell service. “Just great” she said to herself.
She tried to make out the shadow up ahead to determine if it was a man, woman or child but the rain was so much she couldn’t see much. She approached closer to shadow and her heart was pounding with fear. What should she do? She got closer and was about to see who it was when the unthinkable happened. It just disappeared. Vanished.
“Woah, that escalated quickly,” she said. That couldn’t be. She knew she saw someone just a second ago. She couldn’t be that tired… but maybe she was. It was really time for her to get home. She glanced in her rear view mirror just to be sure she wasn’t seeing things but there it was… the shadow of a man.
