Joe walked into the office he shared with Alex, then just stood watching her. It had been a tough couple of weeks, they'd closed up the case in Hollow Maple, packed up, and come home. But Alex never left that small town. Her body might be with them, but everything else that made up detective Alex Burns was still in Hollow Maple. He looked at the report in his hand, sighed.
Alex who'd heard him come in looked up now, her eyes narrowed at the report in his hand. "What's that?"
"The last of the report from the guys that went through the rubble of the cabin."
"Oh?" She held out her hand. Joe held the thing to his chest, he didn't want her to have it.
"Listen, kid, come on, we'll go for coffee and you can tell me all about how far your packing is?"
"Just give it to me Joe."
"Fine." He h
