2. A New World

1498 Words
Argus squinted his eyes slightly as he thought, 'I should act as if I know what she's talking about for now to avoid any suspicion.'  Argus looked into his mother's eyes and spoke, "I understand mother. I'm sorry for making you worry so much." After sensing the maturity her child was developing, Argus's mother's emotions transitioned from sorrow to joy. Her eyes gleamed as she said, "That's alright son. But just make sure you don't go too far just for guarding your friends here. The King's guards do protect the area, you know."  The woman then moved upwards by pushing all her weight from her knees to her feet.  After moving her hand across Argus's hair, the woman spoke, "Take care of yourself." and walked out of the hut.  Now alone, Argus had the time to finally think about the situation.   He sat straight on the bed, and thought, 'Of all things, I can make two things clear; one, this isn't the world I lived in. Two, I don't have the power I had in the other world.'  After letting out a sigh, he continued to think, 'I guess I should gather some information first.' 'But how can I do it? How can I convince the people around me to tell me more about myself?' Placing his left hand on his chin, Argus thought, 'Hmm. Maybe I should just hit my head hard enough for the people around me to think that I've lost my memory.' 'Well, it's not like I have any other idea in mind.'  Argus hopped out of bed and walked towards the forest once again.  Upon reaching the forest, he grabbed a tree with his little hands, and smacked his head on the heavy bark. *thump* Unable to hold his ground against the tree, he staggered away from it. "This... This was not a good idea." Blood trickled down his forehead as he tried to regain his balance. He started walking back unsteadily, as he slowly started losing grasp of his consciousness. However, before he could make it out of the forest, a bear had noticed his scent.  The brown bear lunged towards Argus with it's heavy limbs pushing Argus onto the ground.  'Dammit. It just had to happen now.'  The bear mauled through Argus's body multiple times, while Argus simply laughed thinking, 'Hahaha... I didn't think I would die so soon after being reincarnated. Well, this wasn't really my life to begin with.' With the large amount of blood gushing out of his body, Argus lost complete consciousness.  The bear soon stopped mauling Argus after this, and began to turn towards its den. But little did the creature know, that it would soon meet its end.  An armored man leapt onto the ground with a thud. The bearded man did not have any weapon on him, but was armored to the toe.  On hearing the ground rumble, the bear grunted at the man as it stepped back.  The man stood still, and observed Argus's body.  Thinking that the man was distracted, the bear lunged towards the man and roared showing it's massive fangs.   While the bear was in mid-air, the man's eyes swiftly shifted towards the bear. And as the bear moved closer, the man grabbed the upper and the lower jaw of the bear with his monstrous arms, and ripped the bear into two in an instant.  The bear's guts fell out of its body, and covered the plated warrior's armor in its blood.  Dropping the bear's skin, he walked over its organs, squishing them as he headed to look at the boy on the ground.  He knelt down, lifted Argus's body in his hands and began to journey to the town.    After a period of 3 minutes, he had made his way into a settlement. There, he yelled in a heavy voice, "Fera! One of your boys is injured!" Argus's Mother, who was washing clothes, rushed towards the man as she heard this. As she came closer, she saw her son's body.  "No!! My boy!!!", she screamed as she touched Argus's face.  As she regained her senses, she questioned, "Who did this?" The ground rumbled as lightning sparked across Fera's eyes.  The man began shaking in fear. "It was a bear your majesty. It- It was my fault. I should have been there at the time." Fera replied, "Take him to Baldr before I cut your head off." "Ye- Yes your majesty.", replied the man.  The rumble soon stopped as the man rushed to bring Argus's body to the Main Palace, where King Baldr was residing. Fera used Teleportation Magic to directly travel to the palace, through the power of lightning.   Upon reaching the royal room of the palace, King Baldr stood startled. "What is it Fera? It's odd of you to come here." "I have come here for my son. It has nothing to do with you.", spoke Fera.  The man who had found Argus's body rushed into the room. "Your majesties, the boy." "Place him on the floor, Val. I will not have his useless blood spoil my bed.", spoke Baldr. The floor rumbled once again as Fera's fury unleashed. "If you dare say that again, I'll annihilate your kingdom."  King Baldr was uneffected by Fera's fury. He stood still as he spoke, "Woman, you may be strong, but you are not strong enough to fight me. If you need something from me, tell me what you have to offer." Fera spoke, "Save my child and you can take my powers. Give him the ethereal potion, and you can have my godhood." Baldr grinned, "Hmph. Though the ethereal potion is important to me, I don't mind passing it on to you Fera. You can have it." Baldr looked towards Val and spoke, "Val, bring the potion to my chambers after placing the boy on the bed. Do it fast." With a bow, Val complied, "Yes your majesty." With Val out of the room, Baldr spoke, "You have gotten weak, Fera. Why would a Goddess like you worry so much about a worthless child? He knows of no magic, nor has he the ability to fight. So why?" "You won't understand a mother's grief, Baldr. I have already lost 4 children, and you have lost nothing. It would be better if you remain silent Baldr. I wish not to speak to you.", spoke Fera.  With a smile on his face, Baldr responded, "As you wish Fera. As you wish."  Baldr sat on the other corner of the bed beside Argus, and began to remove his gold armor plating. And right at this moment, Val entered once more.  "I have brought the potion your majesty.", spoke Val.  Baldr continued loosening his armor, and spoke, "Feed it to the boy Val." Shocked, Val replied, "But- But your majesty!" To this, Baldr replied with a hint of anger, unleashing his heavy, dark aura, "Val, do not make me repeat myself."  Val gulped as he headed to give the potion to the boy. He knew of the potion's value, but didn't dare to confront the King's order. Val began to feed the potion to the boy, knowing that it had been guarded and fought over for centuries. Knowing, that the kingdom of Kliffrinn had defended this valuable artifact and had fought various kingdoms for it, just to prevent it's powers from falling into the enemy's hands. His friends, his brethren had died for this potion, and yet, the one to claim it's value was a powerless half-blood prince; proving, that they had all died in vain. Val developed a sense of hate for the boy, thinking how it would've been better to have let the boy died in that forest. He was the boy's savior, yet now all he wanted, was to end his life.  After feeding the potion, Argus's wounds instantly healed. After the wounds were healed, Val spoke, "It has been done your majesty." Baldr paused removing his armor for a short second to say, "Then you may leave." With this, Baldr and Fera were once again, alone to converse their thoughts. After removing his armor plate, Baldr stood in front of Fera to say, "Now it is time for you to fulfil your side of the promise, Fera." "I shall not falter from my word, Baldr. By the name of pantheon, my powers shall now be yours."  After uttering these words, a bolt of lightning enveloped King Baldr. Fera's powers were now Baldr's. Sparks covered his body. He spent a split second admiring his new found power, and left the room saying, "You and the boy can stay in the palace for the day." before he exited.  Fera had lost her godhood, yet her only concern was her son.  Autumn had now come to an end, and the cold winter was to start. It was the end of a joyful season, and the start of a dark winter. Argus partially regained his consciousness and muttered the word, "Rag... narok."
