Dreadful Scyther!

[Viridian Forest]

The sounds of Pokémon in Viridian Forest filled the air as Black walked through the thick grasses with his heavy backpack. Viridian Forest was the only way to get to Pewter city so he had to go through it.

He thought about his team, They weren't powerful enough to defeat Brock even with Froakie being a water-type Pokémon. TMs were the only way for Pokémon to learn strong moves within a short time and he had a TM but it would only be applicable if Froakie evolved into Frogadier.

TM: Poison Jab.

He rethought his entire point of being a Pokémon trainer, Yes He was going to challenge the gyms and participate in the Indigo league but what if he didn't win against the Elite four or even the Champion. He thought about becoming a Gym leader...

He looked at the trees with glee as he saw a Caterpie. They were the most weakest Pokémon in the Kanto region although they evolved faster than Weedles. He pulled out his Pokédex and scanned Caterpie.

“Caterpie takes the Pokédex entry #10.” Black said as the Pokédex began bringing out information on Caterpie.

“Caterpie is an insect Pokémon that resembles a green caterpillar with a yellow underside and teardrop-shaped tail. There are yellow ring-shaped markings down the sides of its segmented body, which resemble its eyes and are meant to scare off predators. Its most notable characteristic is the bright red antenna (osmetrium) on its head, which releases a stench to repel predators. Despite these features and its camouflage in green foliage, Caterpie is often preyed upon by Flying-type Pokémon. Its four tiny feet are tipped with suction cups, permitting this Pokémon to scale most surfaces with minimal effort.

Caterpie is easy to capture and grows quickly, making it ideal for new trainers. As Caterpie grows and develops over time, it will shed its skin many times before finally cocooning itself in thick silk. It can also spit this silk in order to entangle foes. It has a voracious appetite, which drives it to eat a hundred leaves a day. It will even eat leaves bigger than itself. Its favorite food is the Vermilion flower. Caterpie lives in temperate forests and Jungles.

Black put back his Pokédex and gripped a Pokéball in his hand, He wanted to catch Caterpie and probably a Weedle. He threw the Pokéball at Caterpie and the Pokéball shook before finally clicking, signifying a successful capture.

Black put the Pokéball into his bag and the Scouter analyzed Caterpie.

Black knew that Potential determined the growth of Pokémon so he was happy with Red potential for Caterpie.

As Black walked even further into Viridian Forest, He heard the faint sound of twigs cracking behind him. He turned around but saw nothing.

He shrugged his shoulders as he continued walking. He found a colony of Weedles and smirked. The Scouter scanned all of them and found one with Red, Advanced potential.

He walked into the colony and threw a Pokéball at the Weedle, catching it. Bug Pokémon were not hard to capture unlike Rare Pokémon like Charmander, Squirtle and Bulbasaur.

He took the Pokéball and walked out of the Colony, He didn't want to encounter any Beedrill. The latest news was that a trainer and his Metapod were stabbed to death by a swarm of Beedrill.

The moon soon arched in the sky as Black set up his tent and sent out his Pokémon.

“Pidgey, Could you help us to gather twigs so I can set a fire?” Black asked.

The Pidgey turned around, refusing to obey its trainer. In the end, Black and Froakie went and got some dry twigs. They set the fire and sat around the warmth of the fire.

“Hey, Caterpie and Weedle. Will you join in Today's training?”

The two Pokémon nodded vigorously as training began.

---NEXT DAY---

Black jogged with Froakie as a part of their morning training, Weedle and Caterpie had performed well in yesterday's training which included Sparring. They were able to increase their power level to 5. Froakie on the other hand got a considerable increase to 35.

Black looked at the map in his Pokédex and knew it would take about one more day before he arrived at Viridian Forest. He had today and tomorrow to train rigorously.

He had noticed something following him but he kept quiet and continued running, He finally stopped at a clearing and sat down. Sweat poured down profusely and Froakie was a Water Pokémon so it couldn't sweat.

Scyther suddenly appeared in front of them and pointed its right scythe at Black threateningly.

“Scy...Scy!” It shouted.

Black brought out his Pokédex.

“Scyther is a bipedal, insectoid Pokémon. Its body is primarily green and has a thin, cream-colored section between its head, thorax, and abdomen. Female Scyther have larger abdomens than male Scyther. Its reptilian head has two narrow, triangular eyes and three blunt horns extending from its forehead. Its arms end in large, white scythes, which it uses for both hunting and fighting. Two pairs of cream-colored wings extend from its back. While these wings do allow Scyther to fly, it rarely does so. Scyther's thighs have large, upward-pointing spikes. Its feet are tall, rounded, and conical, almost extending to its thighs; each foot ends in three small, white claws on its front side.

Scyther is an adept hunter that tears at its prey with its scythes. Thanks to its green coloration, it can camouflage itself well in the grasslands and forests where it lives. Humans rarely encounter wild Scyther in these areas, however. Said to be like a ninja, Scyther can move so quickly that it cannot be followed, increasing the effectiveness of its scythes. It maintains the sharpness of its blades through battle as well as by cutting through hard objects, such as trees; it can cut down a massive tree with just a single slice, although it cannot penetrate Tarountula's elastic threads. The anime has shown that wild Scyther form swarms with a single leader chosen through combat. When a challenger successfully defeats a current leader and replaces it, the defeated leader is exiled from the swarm. It has also been shown that Scyther becomes aggressive when faced with the color red.
