Luca's POV Laura? What was she doing here? Why was she with my mate? For all I knew, she'd left Lupestone. After what had happened between her, Elisha and I. This wasn't the time to reminisce on the past. I had to get them out of here. It was already getting dark and I definitely wasn't going to leave them here. Maybe I'd take them home with me. “Bad idea,” I heard Zak mutter. He was right. I wasn't going to take two naked girls to my father. I saw my mate stir. I rushed to her side. I moved the hair out of her face as her eyes fluttered open but just for a moment. But that moment was enough. I saw it. I saw the golden glint in her eyes. “Zak?” My heart thumped hard against my chest. “Tell me you saw it.” “I was wondering how long it'd take before you noticed it.” The fucker. I could see the glint in his eyes, his muzzled lips curled in a grin. “Bad dog.” My mate had a WOLF! It made perfect sense now. The nakedness. I had to get them home. Her eyes fluttered open again. They stared into mine then closed. Again. She mumbled something. I stood up, picking her up on my shoulders. It felt like I was in a trance. I knew what I was doing but I couldn't stop myself. I picked up Laura too. I started walking, the two girls draped over my shoulders like curtains. I didn't know where I was going but I went anyway. It felt like the right way to go. The night came on very quickly. The night after the full moon was always the darkest. The Moon Goddess seemed to use it to rest after exhausting her strength to mating and shifting wolves. I only had my senses—my scent and my hearing—to guide me. I came up to a house deep in the woods. The door opened on its own as I walked up to it. I had never been here before but I knew where the rooms were. I placed Laura on a bed in one of the rooms, pulling her sheets over her then took my mate to the other room. I watched her curled up in bed, her chest heaving. Her breasts stared me in the face daring me to claim them. I pulled the sheets over her body. And that was the last thing I remembered. ******* “Warren, what's f*****g wrong with you?” Jon growled walking up to him, his fists clenched. “What the hell are you doing?” “Back off.” Warren glared, pushing him back. Jon lunged back at him, intent in his eyes. “Hey, hey, cut it off,” Rowe forced himself in between them. The omegas stared, their eyes glistening. They loved a good fight. “Don't you have something to do?” Warren roared. They scurried back to their posts. Rowe turned to Jon. “Mind telling me what this is all about?” “Can you believe this rabid wolf?” Jon heaved, his eyes sparking with rage. “The Alpha's son asked him a question and he lied. He asked about those she-wolves we had seen take off into the woods last night and he denied seeing them.” Rowe's face creased. “Warren? Is this true?” “You're in no position to ask me questions,” he growled, his eyes darkening. “I don't remember anyone putting you in charge. I'm in charge here and I do whatever I want! So get in line!” He stomped off. “He's changed, Rowe. This isn't the Warren we know.” Jon shook his head. “First, he tried to stand up to the Alpha, now he's lying to Luca. I'm having doubts about his loyalty. I don't know where they lie anymore.” “You're not alone in it.” “Think we should inform the Alpha?” “No. Not yet. We haven't seen him do anything yet. We should inform Karl though. He'd know how to handle it.” “Probably,” Jon sighed. The air hung stilly as Warren wandered deeper into the woods. His eyes darted around. He had heard everything they had said. They wouldn't dare follow him. Not when they thought he was still angry. He could still hear the clamouring of the omegas as they cleaned up. He could hear Jon barking orders. He sneered. Deeper he went till he couldn't hear them anymore. This part of the woods was dark. The trees were thicker preventing the sunlight from seeping through. He waited. The shuffle came behind him. He turned around. “Took you long enough,” a voice growled. A shadow stalked out from behind the trees. Warren's lips curled up in a smirk. “Now, is that any way to welcome your devoted partner, Vlarr?” “Oh, I'm sorry, dear Warren. It's good to see you. Would you like a snack?” he said, his voice thick with mock. “Out with it,” he snarled. “We haven't got all the time in the world.” “He's going after the girl.” “I wonder what's so special about her.” Vlarr paced around. He turned to Warren. “You're sure it's the same girl?” “I'm positive. He came by not quite long ago. He's searching for her as we speak.” “Good. This should be easy.” Warren started walking away. “Remember to keep to your own part of the deal Vlarr. No mistakes. Luca dies.” “I have a question though,” Vlarr stopped him in his tracks. “How do you intend on removing the Alpha?” There was silence. He seemed to think about it. He looked over his shoulders at Vlarr. “Focus on your own job and leave the Alpha to me. I know how to handle him. You'll get all that you want once I'm Alpha.” He started walking away again. “And it'll come sooner than you expect.”
