“What's up Lu Lu?” Elisha pushed the door shut.
“Don't ever call me that,” Luca glanced over his shoulders. “Not if you want to live long enough to see your pups.”
Elisha laughed.
“Lu…”
“I mean it,” Luca cut him off. “Don't.”
The glint shone in Elisha's eyes. The mischievous glint. Luca lunged at him.
He dodged out of his way. A stool clattered on the floor as he stumbled over it.
“Do it again and you may not live to see the festival.
“What should we do this time?” Elisha asked, rubbing his smarting shin. His weight sank into the sofa.
“First things first…”
“Shopping?”
“Look who's using his brains. You must be so proud of yourself.”
“When?” Elisha ignored his tease.
“Now.” He slipped into a shirt. “Spontaneity is the spice of life.”
“I believe ‘variety’ is the word you're looking for.”
“Whatever,” he croaked. He accessed the mind link. “Noah?”
He led the way to the garage, Elisha tailing him.
The garage gate rolled open as an omega opened it.
“Have you seen Noah?” he asked him.
“No, my lord,” he shook his head.
“What's going on?” Elisha asked, stepping into the garage.
“Noah. I can't find him,” Luca replied as the omega stood near the gate, waiting.
“You'll drive, Elisha?”
“With pleasure,” his eyes twinkled. “Today couldn't get any better,” he thought.
“Where's the Cadillac?”
Luca felt his stomach tighten. The Cadillac wasn't there in the garage. And he hadn't noticed till now. He felt a lump in his throat as he tried to swallow.
“Is there a problem? Elisha peered into his face.
“Not at all. I'll get the keys to the Audi,” he said, heading back to his room. His heart pounded hard against his chest as he strode quickly through the hallway.
“Noah,” he called again through the mind link. No response.
His blood pulsed as the hammering in his heart increased. He feared the worst.
“When was the last time I saw him?” he muttered to himself. His footsteps echoed in the long hallway.
“Luca,” someone called as he brushed past him.
He turned. It was Karl, his father's beta staring blankly at him like he had something on his face.
“Everything's fine,” Luca replied when he asked what was wrong. He turned around immediately, heading towards the garage, urgency in his steps.
“Here,” he tossed the keys to Elisha who caught it with a flourish, kissing it and pressing the button on it. The car chirped as it unlocked, its headlights blinking twice.
“Warm the engines and meet me at the gate.”
Luca's eyes met Karl's as he walked towards the gate. He slowed a bit, counting his steps, waiting for him to leave. He walked up to the sentry at the gate as soon as Karl was out of sight.
“Gregor.”
The sentry saluted him as he approached.
“You were here the night Noah drove out?”
“Yes my Lord.”
“Did he come back afterwards?”
“Not to the best of my knowledge. I was here the whole night and I didn't see him drive in.”
“I want you to do something for me,” Luca said, his voice hush.
Elisha blared the horns from the car, driving towards the gate.
“Anything my Lord.”
“Have someone else stand in for you at the gate. Take four wolves as discreet as you. Search for Noah. Narrow your search towards and around the woods and if you find anything, report to me. You report only to me. Understood?” Luca held him by the shoulders as he gazed into his eyes.
“I understand.”
“Come on, let's go,” Elisha bellowed as he eased the car to the gate, its engines revving.
Luca eyes met the sentry's giving him a knowing look as he slipped into the car beside Elisha.
“Let's go.”
The car's engines roared as Elisha fired it up, its tyres burning into the asphalt as he drifted expertly around a bend.
“Are you crazy?! Trying to get us killed or something?” Luca gasped as Elisha overtook a bus, maneuvering his way past it and steering back to his lane, nearly missing an oncoming vehicle.
“Death is only an illusion, my friend,” he declared, his hands gripping the steering wheel tightly and his eyes focused.
Luca shook his head. Elisha had always been like that. Bold. Daring. Adventurous.
“We're here,” he announced.
The car groaned gently as he wheeled into the park, navigating expertly through the clutter of cars littered around to get a good parking spot. The car went cold as he killed the engines.
“Hold on,” he touched Luca's shoulders. “Don't come out yet,” he whispered, his face expressionless. He came down the car, shutting the door.
Luca's curious eyes followed him. He walked round the car to his side, his gait swaying a bit.
“Milady,” he bowed as he opened the door.
“Are you crazy?” Luca growled. His eyes darted around. No one was watching.
“You've been sulking like a she-wolf the whole time. Might as well treat you like one.” Elisha pushed the door shut.
Luca opened the door himself, stepping out.
“You don't miss much, do you?”
He looked around. Elisha had driven them out of their territories. No one would recognize him here. Elisha knew he didn't like all the attention he got when he entered a place—the she-wolves getting all up in his face, the overly friendly attendants in the restaurants and malls, the business men who thought they could get to his father through him… They always did come.
A large mass of trees stood across the road opposite the mall. The scent of deep fried food, leaves and sweat—a cursed blend—filled the air. Elisha glanced at his friend.
“Lighten up.”
The sun reflected on the glass door as they walked to the entrance of the mall. It slid open as its sensors caught them nearing.
“We found the car,” Gregor's voice filtered into Luca's head through the mind link as he walked in. His heart skipped a beat. He had said ‘the car'.
“You found Noah?”
“No my Lord. Just the car.”
“Where?” He stopped walking. “Tell me where you are. I'll meet you there.”
“Luca?” Elisha turned when he didn't hear him beside him.
“Something came up. I have to go now.”
Elisha's brows raised. “Are you being serious right now?”
“Don't wait for me. Buy double of whatever you're buying for yourself. You know what I like,” he tossed his card to him. “I really have to go.”
Marching quickly out the mall, he sprinted towards the woods. His wolf stirred, the golden glow shone in his eyes.
The birds squawked as Zak’s roar filled the woods as he shifted. His heavy paws thudded the ground as he raced towards Gregor; towards the Cadillac that the wolves had found.
