Chapter 1

Alexei turned away from the window, with his piercing blue eyes taking in the sleek, minimalist design of his office. He walked over to his desk with a custom-made piece of mahogany, and picked up a leather-bound journal. He flipped through the pages filled with ancient symbols and prophecies. He couldn't shake off the sense of impending doom that had settled over him in recent days. "Alexei, the board meeting is in ten minutes," came the calm, efficient voice of his assistant, Elena, through the intercom. "Thank you, Elena. I'll be right there," he replied, his voice steady and composed. He immediately made his way to the boardroom, his thoughts had been drifted to the prophecy that had been made about him after centuries of his dormancy. It spoke of a time when the balance between humans and werewolves would be shattered, leading to chaos and destruction. Alexei had always dismissed it as a myth, but recent events had made him reconsider. Disappearances, unexplained attacks, and the rise of rival packs were all signs that the prophecy might be coming true. Especially what he experienced during his past existence. *** Ava Collins sat in her cluttered apartment, surrounded by stacks of newspapers, notebooks, and photographs. Her latest investigation had consumed her, leading her down a rabbit hole of conspiracy theories and hidden truths. As an investigative journalist for The New York Tribune, Ava thrived on uncovering stories that others were too afraid to touch. Her current assignment was no different. "Another missing person," she muttered to herself, scanning the latest police report. "And no one's connecting the dots." Ava's phone buzzed, pulling her out of her thoughts. It was a message from her editor, Mark. "Need an update on the disappearance story. Deadline tomorrow." Ava sighed and typed a quick response. "Working on it. Need more time." She knew Mark wouldn't be happy, but she needed to dig deeper. Something about these disappearances didn't add up. There was a pattern, a hidden thread that tied them all together. She just needed to find it. The board meeting was filled with presentations, financial reports, and strategic plans. Alexei listened attentively. He was fully engaged in the business at hand, until he noticed Viktor Drakov's name on the agenda for a follow-up meeting. The rival Alpha had been encroaching on his territory, and Alexei knew a confrontation was inevitable. "Elena, reschedule my afternoon appointments," he instructed as he left the boardroom. "I need to handle something personally." "Of course, Mr. Petrov," Elena replied, making a note in her planner. Alexei made his way to a secluded part of the city, where the boundaries between the human world and the supernatural are blurred. It was a place where werewolves could roam freely, away from prying eyes. As he approached a run-down warehouse, his senses were heightened. "Show yourself, Viktor," Alexei called out, his voice echoing loudly through the empty space. "Alexei, always so punctual," Viktor sneered. "To what do I owe the pleasure?" "You know why I'm here," Alexei replied, his tone cold as he gave an imposing look. "You've been pushing the boundaries. And you know it's a sin opening the portal in the human world." Viktor chuckled, "You think you can stop me? The prophecy is in motion, Alexei. It's time for a new order." Immediately, Viktor had them at a headlock, which made both of them clash against the wall. It was really fierce, but there was no winner between both the alphas. Meanwhile, Ava sat at her desk, piecing together the fragments of her investigation. She had a hunch that the disappearances were connected to a series of underground fights rumored to be taking place in the city. She had heard whispers of a secret underground world, where powerful creatures battled for supremacy. It sounded like something out of a fantasy novel, but Ava knew that truth was often stranger than fiction. She was really determined to uncover the truth. Ava decided to follow a lead to an abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of the city. She grabbed her camera and notepad, with her mind covered in fear. She made her way to the location, but couldn't shake off the feeling that she was about to step into something far beyond her understanding. When she arrived, the warehouse was eerily quiet. Ava crept inside. She hid behind a stack of crates, peering out cautiously. What she saw next made her blood run cold. She saw two massive creatures. They were locked in a brutal fight, their movements were like a flash of light and their strength, like that of lightning, erupted throughout the scene. She watched in awe and terror as they continuously battled. Ava's mind raced with questions. What were these creatures? And how were they connected to the disappearances? *** The fight between both Alphas continued, and neither Alpha Viktor and Alpha Alexei were willing to back down. "Leave my territory," Alexei growled. "Or next time, I won't be so merciful." Viktor snarled, his eyes, "This isn't over, Alexei. The prophecy will come true. You can't stop it." Alexei shifted back into his human form, his breath heaving heavily but he controlled it instantly. "We'll see about that." Viktor instantly retreated into the shadows as Alexei sensed another presence through his smell abilities. "Who are you?" Alexei demanded! Ava stepped forward out of fear. "Ava Collins. I'm a journalist. I... I was investigating the disappearances." Alexei's eyes narrowed. "You shouldn't be here." "I saw everything," Ava said, her voice was steadier and colder "What are you? And what was that?" Alexei sighed, realizing what she has gotten herself into. "This isn't a place for humans. It's dangerous." Ava's curiosity burned brighter than her fear. "I need to what’s going on. Please." Alexei considered his options. Revealing the truth could put his pack at risk, but this woman had already seen too much. Keeping her in the dark could be even more dangerous. "Fine," he said finally. "But you must swear to keep this a secret. If word gets out, it could mean the end for the both of our worlds." Ava nodded, . "I swear. Just tell me what’s going on." Alexei took a deep breath and told her briefly about the werewolf packs, the ancient prophecies, and the delicate balance they maintained. As he spoke, Ava listened intently. "So, the disappearances... they're connected to these rivalries?" Ava asked. "Yes," Alexei replied. "
