Chapter 2

Ava’s heart Couldn't bear it any longer as she listened to Alexei’s revelations. She had always prided herself on her fearlessness and tenacity, but this was beyond anything she had ever encountered. "Rival packs, prophecies, ancient battles... it's like something out of a legend," Ava murmured, more to herself than to Alexei. "These legends are our reality," Alexei said, his voice was heavy with the weight of centuries of knowledge. "And now, you are part of it, whether you intended to be or not." "Why tell me all this?" Ava asked, her voice tinged with both curiosity and caution. Alexei studied her for a moment, his piercing blue eyes seeming to read her mind with his powers. "Because you’ve seen too much. And because... I sense something different about you. You're not like other humans." Ava raised an eyebrow, a hint of a challenge in her gaze. "Is that supposed to be a compliment?" giving somewhat of a loud smile when she heard Alexei's words. "Take it as you will. But know this, your curiosity could be your greatest asset or your biggest downfall." Ava absorbed his words, the problem of the situation sinking in. She had always been a seeker of truth, but this was a truth that could cost her everything. Ava poured over her notes, trying to piece together the information Alexei had given her. She glanced at her phone, noting the numerous missed calls from her editor, Mark. She knew she had to report something soon, but what could she say? The truth was too fantastical to be believed without proof. Ava composed a brief, cryptic message to Mark: "Found something big. Need more time. Trust me." She hit send and immediately. She hoped Mark’s patience would hold out just a bit longer. *** Alexei returned to his penthouse, the city's skyline stretching out before him. He couldn't shake the feeling that things were escalating faster than he had anticipated. The prophecy, Viktor's ambitions, and now a human journalist who had stumbled into their world. It all seem to be happening too fast. Elena was waiting for him in the living room, her expression was calm and a bit dull-like "What happened at the warehouse?" "A journalist and well, Viktor," Alexei replied curtly, shrugging off his coat. "He’s becoming bolder. We had a... confrontation." "And the journalist?" Elena asked, her voice betraying a hint of anxiety. "She saw everything," Alexei said, rubbing his temples. "But she’s agreed to keep it a secret. For now." Elena frowned. "You trust her?" "I don’t have a choice," Alexei said, his tone looked weary. "She’s in too deep already. And I have a feeling she’s not going to back down." Elena nodded,"What do we do now?" "We keep an eye on her," Alexei said decisively. "And we prepare. The prophecy is in motion, Elena. We can't afford to be caught off guard." *** The next days were full with loads of tasks and work for Ava. She continued her investigation, balancing her regular assignments with her quest for answers about the werewolf world. She met with Alexei whenever he allowed, gathering information and trying to make sense of the prophecy he spoke of. Each meeting left her more intrigued and more entangled in the web of secrets and power struggles. Despite the danger, There was something about him—his strength, his aura of command, and the depths she saw in his eyes—that drew her in. During one of their meetings, Ava asked the question that had been gnawing at her. "Why do you do it? Why go through all this trouble to keep your world hidden?" Alexei’s expression softened slightly, a rare glimpse into the man behind the Alpha. "Because the world isn’t ready for us. Humans fear what they don’t understand. If they knew about us, there would be chaos, fear, and likely violence. Our secrecy is our protection." Ava nodded, understanding the logic but still having issues grappling the enormity of it all. "And the prophecy? What does it say exactly?" Alexei sighed, leaning back in his chair. "It speaks of a time when the balance will be disrupted. A cataclysm that will threaten both our worlds. It’s vague, as prophecies often are, but the signs are unmistakable. The disappearances, the rise of rival packs, ancient enemies reemerging... it all points to a coming storm." Ava felt a shiver run down her bones . "And what part do I play in all this?" Alexei’s gaze was intense. "I don’t know yet. But your presence here is no coincidence. Fate has a way of bringing the right people together at the right time." *** During the next few days, there was tension in the city as chaos grew palpable. Incidents of violence between rival packs became more frequent, and the human authorities were beginning to take notice. Alexei knew it was only a matter of time before their world would be exposed. Alexei was patrolling his territory, he sensed a mixed feelings of disturbance with his wolf abilities. His senses picked up the scent of blood and the sounds of a struggle. He raced towards the source, his mind already anticipating the worst. When he arrived, he found a group of his pack members engaged in a fierce battle with Viktor's wolves. The scene was chaotic, with growls, snarls, and the clash of bodies echoing through the night. "Enough!" Alexei roared, his voice, sparked with fire, his rare ability peeking out making it obvious that he was the rarest of them as an Alpha with fire abilities. The fighting ceased immediately, the combatants pulling back and shifting back into their human forms. Alexei’s eyes scanned the scene, taking in the injured and the bloodstains that marred the ground. "Viktor," Alexei growled, his voice, low and dangerous. "Show yourself." Viktor emerged from the shadows, "You’re endangering us all," Alexei said with his tone filled with anger. "What if the humans find out?” Viktor laughed, a cold, mocking sound. "We’ll see, Alpha. We’ll see."
