"Claire Bennett, the deadline we agreed on is up. What's your answer?"
"Senior, I'm sorry, even if you gave me another month, my answer would still be the same."
In the little grove at Westbridge University, Claire Bennett looked at the person across from her with an apologetic expression — Ryan Parker, the most prominent figure at Westbridge University.
Studying Claire Bennett's eyes, like two gemstones, Ryan Parker let out a soft laugh. "I'd like to know the reason. Why turn me down?"
Ryan Parker had the perfect build of a runway model, six foot one, tall and handsome, the son of the Parker Group.
Whether it was his looks or his family background, he was flawless; from the very first day he'd set foot on this campus, he'd become every girl's Prince Charming, and even now, in his final year, with graduation just months away, no one had managed to break that legend.
Claire Bennett, by contrast, was just an ordinary student. No influential family, no connections, unlike the girls chasing after brand names, she seemed to want nothing, need nothing; even dressed in plain, worn clothes, she still carried something that was entirely her own.
Perhaps it was exactly that uniqueness that had made the proud Mr. Parker lower his lofty head.
"The reason?" Claire Bennett thought as hard as she could. The truth was, Senior was so outstanding that she really had no good reason to refuse him.
Ryan Parker suddenly smiled and took her hand. "If you can't find a reason, then be my girlfriend."
Claire Bennett yanked her hand back as if she'd been shocked. "Uh, I have to work! I've got a part-time job, I don't have time to date!"
"Dating me will be your only job from now on." He held back his pride with a touch of arrogance.
Claire Bennett shook her head. "Senior, thank you for the honor. But I really am very busy, I have to work to pay for tuition, rent, living expenses — I really don't have time for a relationship. I'm sorry!" With that, she turned and ran off.
Watching her slender figure disappear, Ryan Parker's lips curved up slightly at the corners.
After class, Claire Bennett went straight to the bar where she worked: PUB BLACK.
The place attracted a rough enough crowd, but the pay was correspondingly good, and the hours suited her schedule. When a classmate had introduced her to it, Claire Bennett had taken the job without a second thought.
Dressed in the servers' tight T-shirt and short skirt, Claire looked like a middle schooler whose body hadn't quite finished developing yet.
Surrounded by all those stunning, curvy beauties, she stuck out completely.
"Claire Bennett, go clean up the VIP room."
"Okay."
Claire went upstairs, pushed the door open, and went in, wiping down the table with care. That's when two people walked in from outside.
"Victor, today you're going to tell me exactly why you're turning me down!"
"There's no reason."
Claire Bennett froze for a second, then glanced back at the man and woman standing in the doorway. The man, she knew — it was Victor Moreau, the owner of the place.
He had the natural presence of a star; wherever he went, he drew countless eyes.
Sharp, striking features, like something carved from stone — he had all the makings of an elegant gentleman, charming, full of poise, but dangerous, like a lion prowling through the jungle.
Standing beside him was a beautiful curly-haired woman, tall, with a curvy figure.
Claire Bennett shrugged and went back to her cleaning, focused. The boss was a neat freak; he couldn't stand a single speck of dust.
"Victor, you... you're not into men, are you?"
Clang. The spray bottle in Claire Bennett's hand dropped suddenly onto the glass table, letting out a sharp, jarring sound.
"Sorry, sorry," she apologized at once, her face flushing red, picking it up to keep wiping. Feeling a sharp gaze sweep over toward her, she wished she could bury her head somewhere.
Was the boss gay?
God, why did she have to hear that...
