Daelan’s POV The bass from the speakers throbbed deep in my chest as I stood with the rest of the band, half-listening to whatever Vincent and Blake were laughing about. My eyes, however, kept drifting to the other side of the bonfire where Cassie stood, laughing at something that guy said to her. Her hair caught the light of the flames, and her mouth curved in a smile that I somewhat hated wasn’t directed at me. I calmly told myself to look away and really tried. After all, I had Margaret hanging off me like her life depended on it, dragging me into conversations with strangers I didn’t care much to talk to and shoving grilled meat in my face.
