Chapter 2

CASSIE'S POV My eyes met the hazel eyes of Daelan Slate. Great, just great. Fate just liked to slap me in the face. Jacob turned to him with a smug face. "Yea? And who are you? Her speaker?" I cringed at the lousy question. "No, in fact I'm something more," my heart raced and I shook my head. The last thing I wanted was to be known as his step sister. stared at me and I watched his lips stretch into a teasing smirk. "That's Cassandra Slate," he explained and the room quieted down. He wasn't screaming yet he commanded the room he was always like that. I hated it. "She's my sister and any one who talks to her would be damned," he explained, turning to face Jacob. "Is that clear?" Jacob nodded, giving me one creepy glance before walking away. Dealven's expression darkened as he took me in and I looked away. "What are you doing here?" His tone was harsh but that had little to no effect on me. We had never been close despite our parents being married for the past six years. Daelan never tried to make it work and I gave up after a certain incident. My face grew red as the memories flooded my brain and I looked away. "I don't think I have to tell you where I go or the reason," I replied, my tone just as harsh as his. We gazed at each other waiting for the other to accept defeat but it wasn't easy to beat. "You shouldn't come here. I don't want you around," he muttered, stepping closer. His dark brown hair, chiseled features and piercing hazel eyes that always danced between green and brown seemed to look into you. I took a whiff of his cologne and my heart swelled at the familiar scent of cinnamon and dew. It blinded my senses and for a second I forgot how to speak. Daelan raised an eyebrow and I swallowed. "Don't flatter yourself, I came with Sandra. For some reason I wanted to come here," I answered, slowly losing my temper. Like I'd ever want to be somewhere with him. He took another step closer and I took another. My back killed the cold har wall and I sucked in breath. He was close to close. I opened my mouth to say something but someone beat me to it. "Am I interrupting something?" We both turned to find Marga, Daelan's girlfriend staring at us with knitted eyebrows. I suddenly realised how close we were and I scrambled out of his space. "No you're not. Why would you be," I choked out with a bright smile. Marga let out a laugh standing beside Daelan. His arm snake around her slender waist and she beamed at him. I watched him whisper something in her ear before claiming her lips in a kiss. The kiss grew rough by the second and I felt a faint tug in my chest. He gave one last glare before walking away. I felt my face burn from anger and embarrassment but Sandra returned dragging out of the locker room. It had been two days since we went for the game and Sandra would not stop talking about Axel. She gushed on and on and blowing my ear drum slowly looked tempting. "Did you know that Axel had his nose broken once?" She asked with a dreamy face and I resisted the urge to roll my eyes. I did in fact know that I was there and she had repeated the same things so much I could sing them. "We know about Axel Sandra. It's on google," a voice muttered and for the first time in a log while my lips stretched into a genuine smile. I turned to face Nathan, my lab partner and friend. His hair was cut short like a wall and he wore a white hoodie. "Hey four eyes," he teased, stroking my chin. Nathan had a minor crush on me. It was quite obvious but I ignored it. As long as he never brought it up our friendship would be as solid as rock. We went through our projects together with Sandra blowing her father's money over overpriced plushes. I tried to pick out the notepad that Nathan went for and our hands overlapped. We locked gazes and I felt myself grow hot. I tried to move my hand but his grip on it tightened. My tummy grew warm and I looked away filled with thousands of emotions. "Am I interrupting something?" My shoulders tensed and I let out a tried sigh. That question. That voice. Taking the opportunity I pulled my hand out of Nathan's grip turning to face Daelan. He looked breathtaking as ever. "You might be," Nathan pushed the word through his teeth. If looks could kill Daelan would be six feets under but he stood tall glaring bad. "Unfortunately, I don't care about you." His gaze turned to me and I raised an eyebrow waiting for him to finish. "Come with me," I let out a lunch chuckle before giving him a hard job. His jaw ticked but he stood up walking away. Nathan gave me a look and I cursed under my breath following him. This better be good. "What are you doing here?" I asked the moment we were away from prying eyes. Daeln looked at me like I had just asked him the most stupid question. "I'm a masters student, Cassie. You know that," my core twitched at the way my name rolled off his tongue but I composed myself. "You know what I mean. This isn't your side of college. What the f**k do you want?" I yelled, losing my patience. His gaze darkened and I felt the urge to disappear. "Watch your language,” his voice came out thicker than usual but I held my head high. Him of all people did not need to know how intimidated. "Your parents are coming over," he dropped the bomb and I stared at him with wide eyes. "This has to be a joke. You're joking right?”
