Cassie’s POV I stepped out of Daelan’s car in front of Sandy’s aunt’s mansion, my fingers tightening around the strap of my bag as I turned back to him. He gave me that small smile of his, the kind that felt steadying even when I was anything but. I lifted my hand in a wave, whispering another thank you before he drove away. His taillights disappeared into the distance, leaving me with the soft sound of the breeze and my own sigh. I could not stop replaying what I had seen at the coffee shop. That girl. I did not know her name, did not know her story, but I had seen her twice now with him, both times from a distance, both times pushing him away while he looked as if he wanted nothing more than to reach her.
