Beyond the pain Chapter 3

326 Words
*Chapter 3: Lunch with the Past* I stood in front of the mirror, smoothing out my dress. Hlelo had lent it to me, saying I needed to "dress to impress". I wasn't sure what I was trying to impress Luvo with, but I hoped I didn't look too out of place. The dinner was lovely, the conversation easy, and the company even better. Luvo was charming, and I found myself laughing more than I had in weeks. As the night drew to a close, Luvo walked me to my car, a vintage Golf GTI that Hlelo had dubbed "The Beast". We stood outside, the night air thick with tension. "Thanks for dinner, Luvo," I said, trying to sound casual. Luvo smiled, his eyes cr crling at the corners. "Anytime, Senamile." We parted ways, and I slipped into The Beast's driver's seat, feeling a mix of relief and disappointment. As I pulled out of the parking lot, I didn't notice the car speeding towards me... The impact was sudden, and The Beast's metal crunched as I spun out of control. I blacked out, and the last thing I remembered was the sound of shattering glass. When I came to, I was in a hospital bed, surrounded by beeping machines and sterile white walls. Hlelo's face swam into view, her eyes red-rimmed. "Senamile, oh thank God," she whispered, her voice shaking. I tried to speak, but my throat was dry. "W-what happened?" Hlelo's expression was grim. "You were in a car accident. The other driver was speeding. You're lucky to be alive." I winced as a wave of pain washed over me. "The Beast?" Hlelo's smile was weak. "The Beast is totaled, girl. But you're going to be okay." As I drifted off to sleep, I wondered what other surprises life had in store for me... 😔 *To be continued in Chapter 4: "Recovery"* Will Senamile's injuries heal, or will they leave a lasting impact? Find out next...
