Philip’s words repeat over and over again in my frustratingly empty head as my fingers reach for the stupid wolf head that is hanging on the silver chain, the cause of me being ‘effectively human’. I drag it backwards and forwards along the chain repeatedly, feeling just how easy it would be to snap when the time comes. It wouldn’t take too much force, it’s been made to look nice and pretty, not to be strong. Philip watches me carefully as if he can read my thoughts, and he knows exactly what I am thinking.
