Another victim! How many more before this end, and the bastards responsible will be brought to justice. Rollo brushes his hand through his thick black hair. During the day he follows leads as a normal homicide detective and does his job in the police force. At night he searches the woods for any more clues and for.... them. For some reason he can never find them. Rollo follows their trail and then it just goes cold as if they disappear into thin air. He has been suspecting, for a while now that a witch is behind the fact that they cannot be found and helping the rogue pack in other ways, that is the only explanation.
The killers are Dameon and Darius Stone, they are the alphas of the Black Rock pack of rogues. If you can call them a pack. They are nothing more than a bunch of misfit outcast mutts. Troublemakers and now it seems murderers too. They have been out there for months killing innocent supernaturals.
“Detective, over here” an officer is waving at him, he is stating the obvious as Rollo already sees and smells where the body is. He let out a sigh, no use scolding the man, he is just doing his job.
“Officer Mallik, what do we have here?” He looks down and feels a shock going through him. He swears under his breath. She is... human. Or rather, was. The poor girl was ripped apart in a brutal way. This is not a pretty sight.
“The victim is female and in her early twenties it seems. It looks like she was jogging, he points to her running shoes and what is left of her clothes. We also recovered this headlamp over there.” Looking in the direction she came from, he can smell the blood everywhere and most of all he can smell him… and his brother.
“Who found her?” Rollo asks.
“A young couple that took the hiking trail earlier today. They made sure not to come too close. We took their statements, and they are waiting in the park if you need to speak to them.” Officer Mallik answers.
Rollo gets up and starts walking in the direction where she came from. Broken branches and boot prints paint a picture of what had happened. In his mind, he can see how frightened she was and what had transpired. She was definitely running from someone, or rather something.
“Officer Mallik” he motioned for the officer to join him. “See here, it looks like she was chased, and her foot got caught here and then she went down. That must be why the headlamp was found over there, it had to fall off her head with the force she hit the ground. Also here are two sets of boot prints, except for hers. It looks like male boot prints. If I can guess it looks like numbers thirteen to fourteen, both sets. So, the attackers were tall and big built” Rollo says.
“Bastards, two big guys against a small girl like that. She did not have a chance” Officer Mallik says clearly upset. She did not have a chance either way. The feeling that there is more to this attack than just a random killing does not want to leave Rollo.
“Make casts of the boot prints and take photos of the area, anything can help us” Rollo orders.
“Detective…” Officer Taylor calls out to him. Walking over to him a feeling of dread creeps up into him. “Detective, this looks like paw prints” he looks up at Rollo with eyes wide.
“You are correct officer Taylor.” He says, nodding his head.
“What do you suppose this means, sir? Do you think the attackers had their dogs attack the victim? It looks like an animal attacked her" He looked at Rollo shocked. Unfortunately, he had to keep some of the truth from them he could not tell him that it was a werewolf that attacked her, because most humans did not know werewolves, witches and vampires existed.
“Those paw prints are way too big for dogs” someone says behind them.
Rollo turns around with a smile, his good friend Hunter is standing a few feet behind them. “Sir, this is a crime scene, members of the public are not allowed on crime scenes. Please step away” Officer Taylor says holding his hand in front of him as to try and tell the stranger to back off.
“It is alright officer Taylor, I vouch for him, he is a private detective and a good old friend. I give permission for him to be here.” he walks over to Hunter. Officer Taylor steps back and lets Hunter pass.
“There are no dog prints over here, with the other prints,” Officer Mallik calls out from where he is standing a few feet away. Hunter and Rollo share a look, shake hands and step away from the scene and out of ear shot.
“Private detective huh?” He grins.
“What? Do you want me to tell them you are a hunter of evil things such as werewolves, vampires and other evil supernatural creatures?” he asks his friend sarcastically.
“Good point” His smile changed into a frown. “So, what is the story? What I can understand from earlier, a wolf attacked her?” He asks with worry in his voice.
“Yes, they chased her through the woods as humans and attacked her as wolves. They are clearly sending a message now.” Rollo says.
“Dameon and Darius?” It is more of a statement than a question. Both men know exactly who the culprits are. “The previous murders were all supernatural beings; this is the first human they killed. I am not sure what the endgame is, but I need to get to them before more lives are lost. Do they want a war on their hands? Maybe, that is exactly what they want? Think about it Rollo, if they can discredit the werewolves and make it look like they are responsible for all the killings, then all the councils and supernatural communities are going to turn against the werewolves. That would mean war!” Hunter may have a point, but why? Dameon and his twin brother Darius are also werewolves and so are the rest of their pack.
“Yes, I know, the human council is already on edge with the knowledge that we exist. This is just going to make it worse” Rollo says with a sigh. Doctor Sharpe, the medical examiner waves him over. “Let me go and hear what he found” he tells Hunter and walks away.
“Rollo, they took her heart” He frowned. “Why would anybody take a victim's heart”? He looks confused.
“Maybe a trophy” Rollo says looking down at where her heart used to be. This was not done with care; it seems that it was ripped out of her ribcage. “Doc, please tell me this was done postmortem?” The poor girl.
“I would know more once I got her on my table. Let’s hope that she did not have to go through that while she was still alive” With that he turned around and waved to his assistants to take the body to the coroner's van.
“Officer Mallik, do you have any identity on the victim yet?” He asks in frustration. He needs to find out who this poor girl is, or rather were.
“No sir, we are still searching the area for any clue as to who she could be”. Officer Mallik answers.
“Take officer Taylor and follow the path back in the direction she came from, maybe you get lucky and find her car. This is a public park, someone had to see something. Ask around” He says. Hopefully they can find her car and figure out who she is. Sooner rather than later. This needs to be resolved, if the human council gets an itch for the werewolves, it will end in a blood bath.
The humans will definitely loose, and they know it, but not before taking out as many werewolves as they can and discredit them forever. Then it will be like the dark ages again, everybody fearing the big bad werewolf. He clenches his fists. He will not let that happen.
Rollo walks back to Hunter and tells him what Dr Sharpe told him. “They ripped her heart out by force, it seems in wolf form. That poor girl had to be terrified. They made sure she wouldn’t survive the attack.” Rollo growls, such a young innocent life lost.
“Yeah, I don’t like this one bit. The last attack was a fae, they left her heart in a box after hanging her from a tree for her family to find her. Now they escalated to humans. We better end this before the situation gets out of hand.” Hunter says with frustration.
“I couldn’t agree more” Rollo retorts.
Hunter’s phone rings and he turns away to take the call, a few minutes later he turns to Rollo while putting away his phone. “I have to go, I am needed at a hunter’s meeting. I will talk to you later, keep me up to date please” Hunter replies and turn to leave.
“Will do, talk to you soon.” Rollo says and turn with a sigh, looking at the place where the victim was lying just minutes before.
After Rollo and Hunter said their goodbyes and the coroner took the body to the morgue, he got in his car and left for home. His mind is racing with everything he saw tonight. The Black Rock pack has been a thorn in his side for the past ten years. Ever since they attacked his pack and took his little sister.
He never stopped looking for her and every now and then Dameon and his i***t brother Darius pops up to remind him they are still out there. The twins are getting bold. To kill her in a public park... and starting to kill humans. That is very odd. They were always a bunch of troublemakers, but murder is new for them. In the past six months they killed different magical creatures, from faes to witches to vampires and now humans. He is frustrated, he wishes that he could at least get a breakthrough.
If he can just figure out what they are planning and how he is going to stop them. Because every time he looks for them their trail leads to a dead end. He will need Violet’s help.... ah sweet, beautiful Violet...he grins like an i***t when he thinks of her. Rollo is so distracted in his own thoughts that he realizes too late someone is standing in the middle of the road. Braking hard and swerving to the side he barely misses the figure. Dameon! The bastard, now he's got him. He gets out of the car and faces Dameon. The only response he is getting is a murderous grin. He steps forward and Dameon shifts to his wolf form and jumps at Rollo.
