“Come, we need to get there by 2 p.m.”
Before Susan could even react, the man who insisted he was her boyfriend grabbed her wrist and hurriedly pulled her along.
“W-Wait! Sir... hold on!” Susan struggled against his firm grip, nearly stumbling as she tried to keep up with his long strides. Her confusion was quickly turning into frustration.
He's ridiculously handsome... but I swear, this man has completely lost his mind.
How did I become his secretary? More importantly... how on earth did I become his girlfriend?!
The last time she checked, she was still gloriously single... and definitely ready to mingle.
“How exactly did you come to the conclusion that you're my boyfriend? I—”
Her voice caught in her throat.
The man calmly held up his phone.
Susan's breath hitched.
There, displayed on the screen, was a picture of the two of them.
Not just standing together.
Not just smiling.
They were kissing!
“What?!” she shrieked, both hands flying to her mouth as if that alone could stop reality from crumbling around her.
Her heart pounded violently against her chest.
What is happening?
Is this some kind of prank?
Am I dreaming?
Or... am I actually losing my mind?
Who is this man?
“Susie, we don't have time for your act,” he said, his voice edged with impatience. “We have to get to Manila immediately. If Thirdy gets to the press first, he'll destroy our company's reputation. We can't let him twist the truth.”
His words sounded urgent...
Yet to Susan, they were nothing more than meaningless noise.
Manila?
Wait... where am I?
Wasn't I just in Manila a little while ago?
...Was I?
Her thoughts tangled into an impossible knot.
Nothing made sense anymore.
Every answer only gave birth to ten more questions.
Before she could gather herself, the man tightened his grip and pulled her toward the exit.
She barely managed to keep her balance as she was forced to match his hurried pace.
Within seconds, she found herself being dragged out of the restaurant without so much as a chance to protest.
Waiting outside was a sleek black Mustang that looked expensive enough to buy an entire neighborhood.
Susan hesitated before climbing inside.
Her eyes immediately darted around the vehicle, carefully studying everyone with her.
Lord... please.
I'm still young.
I haven't even experienced a proper love life yet.
Please don't let today be the day I die. She prayed in silence.
Two men dressed in black suits and dark sunglasses occupied the front seats.
They looked exactly like agents from Men in Black.
Oh no..Am I being kidnapped? If they demand ransom, Mom will probably tell them to keep me. Goodness gracious... this is how my life ends?
She swallowed hard.
She didn't trust the men sitting in front.
Not even a little.
The only person who looked remotely trustworthy was the absurdly handsome man beside her.
...Then again... can I really trust him?
As if answering her question...
She suddenly felt his hand slowly slide across her waist.
Her entire body stiffened.
She stared at his hand on her waist in complete disbelief.
Never mind.
He's probably the biggest threat in this car!
“W-Wait!”
She quickly pushed his hand away and shifted as far from him.
Seriously? Does this guy have absolutely no concept of personal space?
He frowned.
“Why?” he asked, sounding genuinely puzzled. “Aren't you used to this by now? It's only us.”
He glanced toward the two bodyguards.
“If you're worried about them, don't be. They won't say a word.”
Without waiting for her permission, he casually slipped his arm around her waist again and pulled her closer.
Susan's patience finally snapped.
“What is wrong with you?!” she blurted out, shoving his arm away once more.
“I don't even know you! You're acting like I belong to you! Who are you, anyway?”
The warmth disappeared from his face.
His expression turned cold enough to freeze the air inside the car.
“Look,” he said, his voice dangerously calm. “I've been putting up with this attitude for a while now.”
“What kind of drama is this, Susie? Are you still jealous because of Monnette?”
He let out an irritated sigh.
“I already told you. It's over between us. You're the one I love now.”
His eyes locked onto hers.
“So can you please stop acting like this? It makes me irritating. You know more than enough that I hate drama”
Susan froze.
Monnette? Wait... isn't that the name of Lucas Monte Vier's ex-girlfriend in the romance novel I was reading earlier?
And why does he keep calling me Susie?
The man sighed before flashing an amused smile.
“Fine.”
“I'll play along with your little act.”
He offered his hand.
“I'm Lucas Monte Vier... owner of Monte Vier Casinos and Hotels here in the Philippines.”
His confident smile widened.
“Your boss...”He paused just long enough to make her heart skip.“...and your beloved fiancé. So, are you satisfied now?”
Time seemed to stop after she hear it.
Susan forgot how to breathe at that moment. She can't believe what she's hearing right now.
Lucas... Monte Vier? The Lucas Monte Vier. The billionaire protagonist from the romance novel I've been reading No...That's impossible.
She stared at him, unable to blink.
The sharp jawline.
The piercing eyes.
The effortless confidence.
Every single detail matched the man she had imagined while reading the novel.
Her fingers slowly tightened around the edge of the seat.
How is this possible?
Did I somehow get transported into the novel?
Or... did the novel somehow invade my world?
Or maybe, I really am losing my mind?
