I locked the door behind me, my eyes fixed on the window. I knew I had to be ready to run, but my heart was screaming to stay with Christian, to protect him.
I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself down, but my mind was racing with worst-case scenarios. What if they hurt Christian? What if I couldn't escape?
I pushed the thoughts away, focusing on the window. I would climb out, run to the car, and get help. I would save Christian.
But as I stood there, my heart pounding in my chest, I knew I couldn't leave him. I couldn't abandon him when he needed me most.
